The deck is going to get scratched and gouged as it is meant to be used so the question is; will hours of polishing improve it's durability and finish? Will damage hide better on a polished surface or stand out even worse?

I'm thinking that a scratch will actually look worse on a dull surface.

In my mind as more scratches hit the polished it will look worse
And the more scratches hit the dull it will hide them better.

Polished is short term bling
Dull is long term durability.

Again, just how I'm envisioning the surface after a year or more of loading crap up there.

We ride salt so I do like the clear coat idea but it would get damaged from use as well and nothing looks worse than chipped and flaking clear coat. If you look closely at the paint on the truck, it has a bunch of that happening already. :(

My old aluminum sled deck used to get eaten up from the road salt up north so I already have tools to polish aluminum. Not to such a shiny point as in the fuel tank pic but 2 new cutting/buffing wheels and some fresh compound would get me close.

Do you mind sharing a link to the wheels you picked? I am still looking for the best and economical ones for my build.

Thanks!
I went with "Outdoor Rollerblade Inline Hockey Fitness Skate Wheels 70mm, 82A Durometer"

There are cheaper deals than what I went with but I filter out the overseas options and buy from the US.

Finally got the shorty loading ramp completed and tested today. I added pics and a short video to the first posts.

I need to do a couple little tweaks to fine tune a few things and then I can start the arduous job of polishing the whole thing.

PS: is my bald spot getting worse by the day, holy moly! :(

Think you could do this with one winch and have it so you slide the whole unit from side to side on a bar? Lock it in on the respective side and move to the other side for the next ski

Everything is possible. I played with that concept for awhile but it didn't fit in with my idea for the removable bunks.

Besides, didn't somebody do that already?

You are very welcome. It's been in my head for several years now so it's good to finally get it out and off my mind.

The plan has certainly changed over the years that's for sure. The original design was nearly identical in nature to what @bach6177 built and there are times I wish I stayed with that concept. It's got at least triple the payload, is much more durable, way more versatile and much more of a universal fit than what I ended up with.

Time and use will ultimately tell how this design stands up or how practical it ends up being. I acknowledge that I went light on many aspects of this design but my thought has always been that I can always beef it up or rebuild certain components as needed.
