Do you mean the bow stops?

This is the current design.

I don't fully trust it yet so I am going to add safety straps so the ski can't come any further forward.

It would be interesting to measure it with a strain gauge of some sort but I'm going to go ahead and say it's not enough to worry about.

It's nowhere near the strain the hull would see getting towed by another ski.

The rollers take most of the strain off the process and I am fine tuning their position to make it even easier. You do see some bind up in the posted video as the ski comes over the hump so some adjustments were necessary.

The leading rollers on the bunks were binding on the ramp hooks when under load. Also, the rocker on the Superjet hull was bottoming out on the aluminum rail so I have to raise up the last two rollers on the ramp to help smooth out the transition.

Yeah, I'm letting off the button lots too and checking things out as it goes.

That was actually the very first test run and everything went so smooth I posted it rather than do a retake.

Finally got the shorty loading ramp completed and tested today. I added pics and a short video to the first posts.

I need to do a couple little tweaks to fine tune a few things and then I can start the arduous job of polishing the whole thing.

PS: is my bald spot getting worse by the day, holy moly! :(

Was this shot from one of your security cams? If I remember you had a reolink system. Stellar quality , I've been procrastinating buying one so long.

Not much to update but I have been working on a few loose ends.

The limited slip in my rear differential has been acting up so I haven't been brave enough to put a load on the truck and risk it grenading on the highway. I ordered an auburn LSD for it and am hoping to get it installed this Friday.

In the meantime...

- Replaced all the stainless allen bolts in the rollers with low profile ones.
- Notched the ramp bottom so it interlocks to the beach cart better and machined the cutouts longer so I can re-position the bottom rollers accordingly.
- built a riser to weld onto the ramp to raise the top set of rollers 1" to assist with the front of the SJ clearing as it comes over the hump.
- started testing polishing methods and compounds.

You are very welcome!

I got the ramp welded up and all back together. I'm still not happy with the way it interlocks with the cart so I may end up welding something else on at some point. The riser portion was exactly what it needed and the transition over the top is much smoother now, especially with the Superjet.

Today I removed the 4 C-clamps I was using to secure the deck to the bed during the R&D phase. I replaced them with bolts that go through the bed rail and into a full length sub rail for added strength.

I also upgraded the front two M10 pivot bolts from brittle stainless to a M12 galvanized bolt with a much higher sheer rating. They are the same bolts that Dodge uses to secure the seats and seat belts in all their newer vehicles and are cheap from the auto wrecker.

The last item to figure out is the tie straps. I have a set of the Suncor straps on the way so hopefully they do the trick.

I have a week off between jobs so I plan to get all the polishing done during that time. The rails won't take long at all but the deck itself will take the better part of a day at least.

I really dig this cover. I would like a cover or a topper but don't want to lose my bed. Being able to put skis, a quad or whatever load on top of my locked cargo would be great.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see you already have this and you meant keeping the beach cart from sliding out.

I had though about something that would pull out from the frame under a cover and distribute the weight onto the tail gate and back into the frame rather than onto the cart. The ramp could hold the ski even if the cart was not present. Is that an option for you?

The weight isn't an issue at all. Keeping the cart from gouging the tailgate while loading is the single largest consideration here.

The easiest way to avoid this is to place the handle of the cart on the tailgate rather than under it. It sounds easy enough but then you have the issue where the handle of the cart and the ramp now occupy the same space. You also have to factor in that there is a rope attached to the front of the ski that is also in the way.

So, at this point it's just about finding a slick way to manage all this while still making it simple and easy enough to manage with one arm.

A custom made hitch step that holds the front of the cart. Multi-purpose and gives you something to polish.

I can send you pictures of how my Versa-haul is held on with a bolt to it doesn't rock as much since you'd be putting a lot of leverage on a wider step.

It's really hard to describe how this all works but I feel like you are making this seem about 10 times more complicated than it really is.

What I have now is a slick and easy 9.9 out of 10 so it just needs a tiny little tweak, not a full on redesign from the ground up.

It just needs a small saddle on each leg to straddle the cart handle and hold it inline. I already have some pieces made up that just need to be welded on but I figured I would try notching them first before I added a profile that stuck out. I really don't want anything more hanging down so I may try something that folds up and out of the way to keep the ramp as simple and sleek as possible.

At some point, there will be a spot on the underside of the deck for the ramp to slide into and store so the fewer obstructions on it, the better.
