The Second Official OCD Garage build

It's been a long time coming and still a few days away yet but I am more than ready for this to happen. :)

We set this in motion over 4 months ago and will finally close on our brand new house on April 27th. Mama gets a big new house and I get a 10'x19' bay dedicated to all things OCD. :)

The first "garage" project is to clean and epoxy paint the floor, second is my signature shelving unit in the back corner and then I can move in all my current benches and equipment. And of course all this will have to wait until after I get Mama all settled in and happy inside the house first, (surveillance cameras and blinds, in that order).

Storage is going to be a bit more of a challenge in this garage as I have trusses instead of rafters so the first order of business will be to build a general reinforced platform area and then build cubbies out over top of the load bearing walls so I shouldn't be placing any major weight on the trusses themselves.

I also plan to add a pathway through the entire attic to better facilitate any and all future mods. There will be cameras, network and TV, in ceiling/wall surround speakers and who knows what else.

This list will of course escalate quickly and likely take years to accomplish but here's a taste of what will hopefully happen in the next month or two.

- Epoxy floors
- Corner storage unit
- Folding attic stairs
- Build and mount PSB 5.1 sound system
- Attic platform and storage
- Upgrade cheap openers to Chamberlain belt drive openers with Wi-Fi features
- Wire and plum compressor into attic
- Insulate Attic over garage with R30
- Install 2T mini split Heat pump unit in Garage
- Add outlets for welding, Milling machine and Lathe
- Plumb hose reel for compressor
- Triple current lighting and switch to LED
- Biggest outdoor metal ceiling fan available
- Remote controlled "through ceiling" winch in center of bay.
- Finish welding out a 36"x72" aluminum work bench that I started just before the move.

** For the eagle eyes who spot discepencies, the pics from inside are from a neighboring house as I don't have any current pics of ours that don't look like a construction zone. The only differences are the placement of the attic hatch, electrical panel and ours has two HWT's in the corner.

There's even a test pond out back although I'm not sure I want to know the actual cost of using it. :)

It's a community pond that I share with 4 other homes. It's a no-go...I already checked...twice...:(

I figure the only way I get away with it is either perfect timing when nobody is around or if I can somehow pull enough consecutive back-flips that the wow factor out weighs the pissed off factor.

and I can't flip so...it's a no-go zone. :(

This is where something like a battery powered ski would be perfect. Very little noise to bother neighbors.

Looking forward to the progression of this thread.

I was thinking of a couple paddle boards but it’s really not even big enough for those.

The bigger picture is a rendering down of projects and distractions so we can get back to adventures like actually riding Jetski’s again. :)

Awesome! havent been around here much but Im currently on escrow on a place with a detached shop and definitely love some of your shop ideas just like your products, just might be stealing a few ideas...please keep the pics flowing! Congrats on the new place!

It’s only day 3 of the move in and things are moving a lot slower than anticipated. I injured my shoulder a week before the move and haven’t been able to give it a moments rest so everything is painful with laying down being the most painful so sleep has been very elusive for the past 10 days.

My wife has been giving everything the deep clean while I installed all the blinds, ceiling fans, hung the TV and got all the utilities installed.

I have had an Internet tech here 3 days in a row to sort out a failing internet connection but we finally got it figured tonight. Who knew the arduous journey of 4.4 miles would take such a toll on a WiFi router.

Tomorrow should just about wrap up our personal stuff and I can start to turn my focus to the garage. I have way more chit than I thought so staging it all so I can build in storage is going to be a PITA! I should just high grade it and take it all to the dump.

I’ll know better what I have to work with once I gain access to the attic.

The good news is, our closing was quite a bit less than anticipated so our budget got a huge kick! I was able to get a set of 4 BR30 Philips Hue Color LED bulbs and a bridge for the master bedroom and my wife liked them enough that we are going back to pick up a bunch more. I want to replace all the remaining 16 bulbs right off but I will have to settle for 2 more colors and 4 white ambience for now.

Only one day left of my Vacation and then it’s back to work on Monday.

I’m down 8lbs since last Friday and I am ready to go back to work just so I can rest and heal.

The house is now complete and I wrapped up the storage area in the attic so I can start putting stuff up and out of the way. Once I clear enough floor, I can actually start on the epoxy. That’s the big item I’m waiting on before I can build the last shelving units and finally start to get things put in their place.

Friday I added 4 more light fixtures in the garage and upped all the bulbs to 100 watt equivalent Daylight LED bulbs (1600 Lumen per). I then wrapped up the day by swapping out both cheap Genie 1/2hp door openers with Chamberlain 3/4 HP belt drives with WiFi and MyQ so they integrate with our other home automations.

Tomorrow is all about the surveillance cameras and if I have any time left, I’m going to hang an extra ceiling fan in the garage!

I got a late start and had a few complications but ScottS showed up with another roll of Cat5 and saved my day.

I managed to get 10 out of 14 cameras installed before I burned out. Today was the hottest day to date and I spent way too much time in the attic.

I’m officially down 10 lbs since last Friday. That’s almost a pound a day although I expect I’ll gain half of it back tomorrow after I hydrate. I drank 3 gallons of water today and never even got close to proper hydration.

Ended up losing most of this past weekend to installing my remaining cameras, doing yard work and hosting the in-laws but I did manage to get my new ceiling fan installed.

I couldn’t afford a real Big-Ass-Fan but this should suffice. It’s a 9 blade 72” Slinger by Fanimation that lays down 9000 CFM with just a whisper.

I picked up 4 more bundles of insulation so I hope to get the rest of the garage ceiling insulated one night after work. It’s supposed to rain a couple nights this week so hopefully that brings the attic temp down below 100 for me.

And I may have invested in a few more of the Hue lights...

The count is up to 14 now....
