The saga continues...

The case showed up around 8pm last night so I stayed up till midnight putting everything together and trying to get it to boot.

Was back up at 6am and spent the day troubleshooting and never could get it to boot. Finally called it quits and boxed up the motherboard to be sent back. DOA!!

So there’s 13 hours of my life I can’t get back. FML!

Finally pulled the trigger and ordered a lift for the house. Get email last Sunday that it has shipped. The tracking doesnt work until friday at which point I had contacted freight company and seller. so finally get a response oh hey we were out of that lift but it shipped today. Tracking shows its in Dallas still and to be delivered on Wednesday, when I go back to work. That means it has to sit at my friends place until Friday, its gonna be in the way, and I dont get to play with it till next weekend. Freight shipping never seems to go as planned for me

We ordered new appliances during Black Friday and they finally arrived this week.

The fridge was easy to install, the dishwasher was even easier and the cooktop should be the easiest of all.

Should....have....been...

Apparently the countertop openings are not cut to a standard and I will have to enlarge the opening in order to install the new cooktop.

No problem right? Did I mention that I have Granite countertops?

I offered to just stick the old one back in but the Wifey says she wants a matched set so tomorrow I get to learn how to cut granite in the driveway.

I already cut the slab loose, set up a set of sawhorses and assembled a frame to support the it during the cut. I picked up a 7” diamond blade for my skilsaw and will find out in the morning how bad of an idea this really is.

Hopefully I will be posting the results in a different thread tomorrow.

That should work fine. I've had to do it in a pinch using a diamond blade in an angle grinder lol

I hope so, I YouTubed the crap out of it and it seems pretty do-able.

I have to take an 1-1/2” cut off the back and a 1/2” off off each side to make the new unit fit.

I was gonna do it in place but I am not prepared for the fallout from the wife having to clean up after me.

Boyer it’s not hard at all. I cut this kneewall out and removed the section of granite when I first moved in my house with a 4” angle grinder. Dropped it to the local tile/marble place to have a bullnose edge cut on it after and glued it back down myself. I wasn’t paying them $200 X2 for removal and re install.

I’m going to have to do it again very soon when I move that counter to another wall and open up the kitchen/dining room.

Make sure you use plenty of water and go slow. Don’t breathe the dust.

Shop vac while you cut if you want to do it in place

That’s good to hear. The part that has me nervous is that the cooktop opening makes things a bit more fragile than just working with a full slab. Research says anything less than 2” is sketchy and I have 4” at the thinnest part so I’m fairly confident it’s a low risk move. I built a frame to support the slab during the cut so I should be well prepared.

Skilsaw for the big cuts and finish it off the inside corners with the angle grinder.

Got it done today and posted up the results in the “other” thread.

The worst part was hauling it out and back in. Granite is heavier than it looks and my little wifey really struggled. She almost dropped it bringing it back in but she powered through. I pulled the audio of her off the cameras but she threatened bodily harm if I ever played them too her or anyone else ever again.

So here in michigan, cars rust out to the point where they become dangerous in 7 years. I have a mint, no rust (stored winters), 1995 nissan pathfinder, 4x4, 150k miles, rebuilt trans, runs mint. Facebook marketplace wont let me list it for sale for $4000 because im asking above kbb value, which is like $2k. I can sell a jet ski for $15k, but i cant list a mint 4x4 vintage vehicle for $4k?!?! Not to mention there is a market for cars like that here. Another example is my mint 1994 toyota pickup 4x4, zero rust, 70k orig miles. Ive seen them go for $10k+ on ebay.

F facebook and everything its stands for!

I dont even have an account btw, had my brother try listing it for me hahaha

My wife mowed the lawn today and clipped the head clean off one of the sprinkler heads. On my last days off, I spent several hours digging them all up and raised them 4-5” to get them flush with the grass. I guess I have a couple that are too high now.

Normally she would leave it for me but I’m on the road for another 15 days and the lawn wouldn’t survive very well.

I had a spare set of internals so I walked her through how to remove the center only and swap them out. I specifically said to watch that the body itself doesn’t unscrew because the fitting at the bottom will skew and she’ll never get it to go back on.

So guess what she does....

I have special tools and have this repair down to an art but she wasn’t having it over the phone. I tried to have her just cap the line but that wasn’t happening either.

So, now, somewhere in the middle of a startup working 12-16hr days, I have to make time to drive home and fix a frickin sprinkler head.
