One of our estimators was a Helper when I got hired 17 years ago to be an estimator. He then went to being an installer. Then about 8 years ago or so he got promoted to Estimator. Most of his jobs are insurance driven. Basically given to him. Business has been slow. We started talking about opening on Saturdays. At the meeting, He said "I dont think we need to open saturdays until our customers request it"........ That pissed me off. He never comes in on saturdays even if he has crews working. I have for years. And the phone is always ringing "What are your hours". Well, the owners decided to start opening. He told one of the owners that "I would rather not work on saturdays", Then made the comment about "Yall need to look at the numbers, My numbers are up, so I could not have to work"............. He does not have to chase his jobs. They get sent by the insurance companies. All he does is plug numbers that the Ins companies will pay..................Huge peeve! Lots of that in my office as well and I think it directly correlates to tenure. I work with some dinosaurs and they feel that the company now OWES them for working here as long as they have. I wish these people felt privileged to have a job and took pride in their work. One guy leaves 20 minutes early every day (and has for who knows how long--obviously management blows too) and couldn't care less. He'll intentionally ignore his phone if it may interfere with leaving early.
My complaint for the day: Mouthbreathers on the other end of the phone. Knock that chit off. Why does it sound like you ran a marathon and are eating spaghetti when you call me on the phone. Sometimes people make me sick.

That sucks BK. I enjoy my job (for now) but get pretty sick of complacency from others real quick. My last 2 annual performance reviews have had the same single sentence in the "area of improvement" box...."Needs to accept not everyone works at the same level and not hold everyone to the same standard he does himself." Whatever the eff that means....helluva performance plan...I'll just shutup and accept some idiots are lazy while I pickup their slack.

Family Owned Business. I am not family. Estimator in question has his ass so far up one of the owners ass he can tell you what she had for dinner the night before.Union job?
I was wondering if whitca had a Union job.Family Owned Business. I am not family. Estimator in question has his ass so far up one of the owners ass he can tell you what she had for dinner the night before.
Nope, wholesale. Most of my complaints are simply due to poor management but going into that would require an entirely different thread lol. Every job seems to have the same personalities in one way or another.Union job?

Only one estimator works on Saturday along with one sales person. Just 4 hours. Rotate weekends. He does not want to be part of the team.I'm confused what the issue is? Is there a reason he specifically needs to work Saturdays of his work is getting accomplished? Are you jealous that he doesnt?
I'm asking because I work for a company that absolutely wants to own my life. I used a bad word em. I'm eventually out of here because I want to work to live, not live to work.

You would think they would be considerate enough to let you know yes your hired or no. I took a welding test the other day for a guy. He said he would let me know that after noon. Because he had other guys to test. OK cool no biggie. A week later still nothing. If there not considerate to let you know something. May be a sign not a good place to workI haven't heard back from the guy I interviewed with.
Quick poll of interviewers and interviewee's, do you let someone know they didn't make the cut? Or... if you interviewed, did you get a "hey thanks for your time we picked Steve cause it looks like his head will fit up my ass" (last part is just for BK lol)
give it 3-5 days, then send a follow up email or call them. shows you want it if they havent chosen yet. Also when interviewing your last question should always be "What is the next step?". If they dont mention hiring date, ask when the position is expected to be filled or when you may hear back on their decision.I haven't heard back from the guy I interviewed with.
