Hi to all.. Thinking on upgrading my engine and im interested on this cheap miracle tpe-964 ss top end.. However there is not so many writings about it, people that own this engine says its good and good power. But there is no perfect engine so i need you tpe owners to tell me if i should or should not buy this engine.

I have b-pipe, 48 novi's, vf3, am head, msd totall loss and skat track 140mm magnum seth back pump waiting for this engine.. So i think i will get all the power out of it that there is..

They can be great motors if you can find someone to help you with tuning advice.. I've been riding a stock 701 all summer. I've not been super happy with my 964 situation

Any motor needs to be tuned correctly to get 100% out of it!....................

My TPE 964 has just passed 120 gallons of fuel consumed without even a hiccup !
I'm running Full Spec 49's, TL, original TnT chamber, spinning a Solas 144 mag.
It's without a doubt a handful ! Any of us that have built one of these now have tuning figured out!
My opinion is , these are money well spent!
I agree with MB, the 140 mag will be too small a pump for this, as currently my 144 is a limiting factor in my set up!

I love my 964. :) most who have ridden mine are surprised at the power.

That 140 is probably too small, and you might be better off with at least a solas 144.

Dag you are 4 hours away from Erik who built your motor and Phil who did all the r&d on the motor. That's a resource that I'd use to my advantage. I promise if Phil works his magic your opinion would be greatly different.

I think the issue is actually getting him to work his magic...

I could be wrong but I'm pretty certain TPE and P&P are separate entity's, meaning if you want your ski tuned by a professional it cost money. Some advise here and there is free but phils knowledge and time is worth something. This is how the best tuners in the industry can afford the high dollar skis and continue to ride. I can promise you Phil will help everyone he can but its not free. One thing to remember also is there's no one special setup for any combination of skis. It takes hours and hours of test and tune to dial any (engine, pipe, pump etc) combination in.

Phil's also been laid up with a broken wrist until this past week. I know he was very limited on what he could do. But the cast is off, so might be a good time to hit him up.

I love my TPE 964. I've had it for one year and couldn't be happier
best bang for your buck!
I recommend having the shortblock assembled professionally . there is a lot of case work to be done and I'm sure any reputable shop will stir you in the right direction for the tuning.
I run dual FS 48's with stock electronics+ 144 solas mag in it's spot on with crazy power for what it is!

If you don't want to either pay someone to tune your ski, or take the time to learn to do it yourself, then you need to stay with a stock engine, maybe add the bolt-ons where the manufacturer tells you tuning specs to use...
But if you are willing to do either of those two options, the TPE 964 engine is a great investment.

I read the tpe thread or some of it ( over 100 pages) and what i´ve learnd is that it truly is powerful engine for low cost but hard to get tuned up for some.. but so is 701 for some people;)
im not afraid to get my hand dirty and learn how to tune my engine.

there are no company here in Finland that knows anything about case working tho so probably it would be best to buy whole engine instead of just top end..

just little consern about that nicasil and how long does it last.

o_O

The nikasil lasts very long- longer than steel sleeve bores. It's much easier to change pistons than to hone/bore, which is probably better for you with no machine shops around...
Also sounds like you should buy the complete engine.
