Yes. Drives me nuts! No pun intended. I was doubting myself for a long time as to whether I had installed it wrong. But I checked and rechecked.
It would come loose all the time. Not much, but enough to make steering plate wiggle around.
It didn't matter much I torqued it down, or if I used red loctite. One turn of the steering would make it come loose the first quarter turn - and then downhill from there.
That happened with the std UMI plate and the Blowsion shortened plate.
For whatever messed up reason, it hasn't happened once since I installed the XMW plate. Don't know why.

I always just use red loctite without any issues. TBM makes a new nut that comes with his new steering kit..Try and contact him and see if he will sell it seperatly.

TBM will sell the locking collar seperate. I just got one because I could keep that dam nut tight. I went through about 4 nylon locking nuts in the past year.

Anybody ever have trouble with there nylock nut that holds the steering plate and bearing down :banghead: How do you keep it tight?
I use a cold chisel to peen the top portion of the nut. I then use RED loctite. This combo works really well.

If this fails again I will make a large aluminum washer that has ears, once the nut is secured I will fold the ears over...thus preventing the movement of the nut.

torque the crap out of it?
You can't because you will quickly chew up the outer o-ring. The rubber o-ring must only be slightly compressed.

FWIW: Not related but I am using the JSS "Tuff Thrust" kit and LOVE IT!!! Yet another clever product from JSS!

First the bent steering cable and now this...what other "ski demons" do we have in common?!?

I tighten my steering nut before every ride, but it always works it's way loose within an hour of ride time. It doesn't back out alot, but enough to give the steering a "wobbly" feel.

BTW, the steering cable fix worked like a charm. Thanks for the input P-Diddy.:cheer: :arms:

Alright, let me in on this. What's the fix to the bent steering end?

ParrDaddy called me and explained this one to me, so he deserves ALL the credit, as far as I know.

Our problem was a slightly bent steering cable tube in the pump area, causing the steering to be stiff in the middle which freed up the closer you got to fully right or fully left. ParrDaddy believes that a cheaper grade stainless housing is to blame and came up with a simple, yet effective repair. Get ahold of a stainless or aluminum 1/4" I.D. tube about six inches long and make a housing for the housing. Problem solved---at least in my case. Keep in mind that I was running a cable that was less than a month old when this happened. ParrDaddy came to the rescue and offered his fix and I have had ZERO problems since.:arms:

Yep, that's how you fix it if the sleeve by the pump is bending. My cable was brand new too, so I think they're not quite as strong as they used to be. I also have not had any problems since I reinforced it :woot:

So for the nut, mine seems to be staying tight now (I hit mine with carb cleaner, like Charlie said) I was thinking about adding a set screw to the nut to give it another lock though......we'll see :cool2:

It's nice to see I'm not the only one

LegdragPete used a similar method to fix the steering on his x2 in Daytona.

I just ordered my split nut yesterday from TBM. He did not know the price, but I did not care. I was ordering the throttle anyway, so he was just going to add it on.

It also depends how many times you have used that Nylock nut. The threads tend to cut into the nylon after a couple of losseneing and tightening cycles + they dont work so well anymore.

I would put a new nut on there the next time you replace anything.
