I'm talking about carbon boats with big cc motors....? of corse I have to use it on a fr2 lol but I know what I'm doing ;)
not everybody with a carbon boat and a huge motor knows what he's doing. its a guarantee he doesnt know what he's doing if he does use trim with a big motor carbon boat. i bet you do use trim on that FR2/tank unless its in big surf

This isn't entirely true, I know @RyanO uses the trim and he gets paid to ride a carbon boat with a huge motor every day. I've tried it both ways and I can flip with trim and without, but I find myself still using trim more often because it makes the flips effortless but you can still go big. Mind you, I'm a flatwater only rider.

why would you use trim after the setup if you have enough power to flip without it? that makes no sense at all. kind of like taking viagra when your peter still works fine.......... unless you think you need it.......

i hope i'm not bursting your bubble here but i've seen your and my vids and i dont consider either of us going big. sure, our head doesnt scrape the water on rotation , but we arent getting much air in my opinion. i have been flipping for a few years now and i found that i quit using trim the better i got. with XS1200 power and a hull that performs, i should just off idle flip to start multiples and only setup for rolls /spins/under flips/huge singles. i am disappointed with what i see in my vids and bored to death with my flatwater performance.

FWIW I know for a FACT several of the top riders in flat water pro freestyle use trim for most every single flip.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but you can't put a blanket statement out there that they don't know what they're doing. I'm talking on the podium, this year, and in recent years.
Surf is another thing all together. I learned to flip without it in surf. It's not necessary. Do I still use it occasionally to ensure I don't tear the nose off a ski in 2' of water off a weak unpredictable gulf wave? Absolutely. You won't see me pulling it on chest high waves though. Is it a crutch? Of course, it makes it easier.. But so do aftermarket hulls. Where do we draw the line on what's ok to be one of the cool kids?
I just like riding, I don't care if you like my stunts, or how I come about doing them, all good times on my end :)

i'd sure like to hear a pro tell me about it, before i swallowed that hook line and sinker. i'd ask the clinic but i guess they wouldnt count since they didnt make pro podium............ and i suppose if your boat was a long hull as opposed to a shorty hull, i could see needing trim.

I don't care much for flatwater and don't follow it other than a few peeps on Instagram but I can say that he is correct about some top pro contenders using trim

You know what is fun with trim is spraying people. You can direct it real good on just a simple turn and spray. I'm a dick sometines though. I also like trim to do underflips on small waves. Trim is pretty handy for my style of riding. Which is a little of everything but huge waves.

there is some vid of rok riding in first peson with a go pro on a pole off the front of ski,he pulls trim almost every flip except the type were he is traveling out further forward. Whats more interesting is the kind of trim he is using,he is pulling with one finger under power...pretty sure he is making as good or better power than any top contenders...hiro always is a step ahead with some kinda tricks up their sleeve..I have not seen it recently but a couple yrs ago at wf they had a pretty standard looking trim setup

i tell everyone when they tell me they want footholds to forget it and just do a strap. they never listen because all you would see on here is foot hold installs.

its like this huge huge thing they feel needs to be accomplished. "ah yea man once i install my foot holds im going to go for it....." im like, if its not an AM hull, go to a surf shop and get straps then go to home depot and get thick wood skrews. drill those babys in and you can go for it right now AND be ahead of every one that is realizing a foot strap is where your foot naturally wants to be anyway.

i have now 5 guys, including my brother, now installing a rear foot strap and all i hear is "bro you were totally right! i should have listened! F*$& this foot hold! this is so much better! omg!"

put a foot strap in and dedicate 20 min to only using the strap and boom. your now a freerider. throw the trim in the trash while your at it.
Straps are great.
However, for those of us still on sj hulls, the footholds effectively widen the narrow stock tray. More benefits than simply holding your feet.

I guess.

I competed on a stock SJ in Peru and I just had a rear foot strap and I didn't feel like I needed my foot any more over.

The tray is small but it's width isn't going to make of break you. Commit to your foot in 1 position and your dialed
