I start the ski on the trailer, idles good. Pushing water through the pissers. Let it come up to temp for a few minutes.

All seems well. Except the water is high 40s and we have a nice "breeze".
I decided to go for it. Start out and make it 20 feet
Before I fall. I Pulled the ski nose high and sink the back end. No worries it's still running. Start out and go to pull my fat ass up and.... the hand pole comes out of the lower bracket. Ski is pinned wide open. I go off the back and it takes off. I can do nothing but float there and watch hoping it doesn't hit someone, a boat, the launch ramp.... all of those thoughts.

A few seconds later the ski is upside down, maybe 20 yards from me. It dies.
I swim to it as it is sinking. i call to my fiance to grab her ski. I get to my ski and luckily the water is only 4' deep there. I flip the right way up, let the bilge ( I almost didnt put in) do its thing and wait.

She was filming this whole thing... I may try to post the video later.

Got it home and give it the once over so far I need to shorten the poles, replace the finger throttle, the cable tore out of it and damaged the threads, the start stop switch was hurt, the connectors for the kill side were pulled out and when plugged back in it has no spark. I un-plug and it fires right up.

So I am assuming I must screw the poles to the base , is this a thing? Does everyone do it?

Might be missing parts of the story, but at dinner with family right now.

I put these little machine screws in mine. Lock washer and nut in the inside. Two in top bracket and two in bottoms bracket.

Good idea to go with the bilge pump to since that ski has no foam in it. I never had anything that drastic happen, but I used to put pool noodles under the tray for extra peace of mind.

Awesome, I will be adding screws. Maybe like 3/4" diameter just for added security.

My pole is max bun copy, it has no saftey rod.
Max does not make the poles anymore nor does he support them. When I bought it the package with the bushings broke open In shipping and i didnt know i lost some bits till recently. Thankfully JM has stuff which only required minor mod to fit it.

Here are a few questions for anyone who has dealt with very limited battery access on their ski.

My RIP can only fit a small group 12 (i think) battery in and out with the motor in place. It lives on the left side of the ski behind the bulkhead mount and under the tray (sorta). To put in a larger battery in it I have to remove the fuel tank, exhaust pipe and move the motor forward several inches.

My eventual idea is a total loss system, but on a small battery I dont think it would be a good idea.


What size battery do you all run on 900cc + ?

Does anyone run a lithium battery?

Do you have permanent charging leads attached to your hard to access battery?

I am running Zeel Total loss on my RIP. I am using a ballistic 16 cell battery. the battery is smaller than the tray but I have turf filling in the gaps and to keep the battery from wearing against the tray. I run a B-pipe so It is EXTREMELY difficult to reach the battery with everything together. I am using the leads that come with the ballistic battery charger to connect the charger to the battery. It is a small plug that stays connected to the battery, to charge I just plug the charger in.

I have been running the ski to see how ling before the battery is dead. I run my bilge 100% of the time when riding. I have run through about 7 gallons on this charge and it is still cranking up... I plan on making a couple of runs today... I also disconnect the zeel from power when I take the ski out of the water. I know the zeel has minimal draw but hey, sometimes it is a week or two out of the water.

Wps featherweight lithium. Fits in the location behind the pipe. I've had it Four Seasons now and I charge it twice a year. Once in the fall before winter and once in the spring

Sounds good to me. What size did you run?
My fear is not having enough amp hours. Ski dies wont start and bilge pump dies too.

No....guess I missed that part. But comparitivley speaking to agm batteries after having a lithium ill never buy atm again. More cranking power than I'll ever need, lighter, less maintenance and less charging. My agm's were always on a solar tender.
