Other What did you fab up today? A thread for the home fabricators!

Looks sweet... whats this used for exactly?
Haha, it's for the 5 kw generator on our boat. Raw water from the cooling system goes in the barb and then into the inner exhaust tube before the muffler. The cast iron ones from the factory rust out easily and badly, and to replace it all to stock would have cost me over $1300. This was about $50...

I was having regrets about converting my lathe to CNC but today was a game changer.

Nothing like making 4 identical parts and having a program dialed in to make more at any time.

Today's project was a couple pivot bearing bushings for a special project I'm working on.

Aluminum spider web. The stuff of horror movies.

What lathe is that and would you recommend it.

It started off as a Grizzly G0602, (10" x 22"), but was already upgraded with a variable speed motor so now it's equivalent to a G0752.

It's good for what I do but it can always be bigger. It can spin up an impeller or flywheel but it doesn't have the clearance to swing a reduction nozzle so no nozzle boring for me. I have no plans for that type of work so it's doesn't bother me.

Overall I am very pleased with it and because it's such a popular model, there's plenty of advise and plans on how to make alterations to make it even better.

Combined with a CNC package, (ballscrew kit, stepper motors and a motion controller), it can become a very useful and powerful addition to any shop.

I would have thought about nozzle would clear. But it's only $20 to have a nozzle bored at the machine shop.

I think I will get this model then. Always wanted a lathe since making bike pegs in junior high shop.

I would love to see a video of the cnc in action.

Christmas for my father-in-law
I just finished these last night. My father-in-law made the knives from leaf springs and antlers about 25 years ago. My super-dad helped me with the sheaths. I hope he likes them. @Scraggly likes them ;) it was his idea
