Today was a very productive one, but cold in the shop. Time to break out the heaters before long.
Started with these.

Then fixed my fathers rifle. It's a modified mouser wwI action that has been cut for .308. Set the head spacing as it was always to tight. 30 years later I got it cut set and sighted in. And in the rain.

And finished the afternoon with a couple of these.

Now back to processing deer before I hit the road for a few days. RDM is headed north for some custom stainless welding.

Came out real nice! I built a couple at certain heights for the same reason except in short not tall.

I spent the day with the men of my family hunting, but the the gun I recently did a lot of work to and didn't get shot by the owner until he sent me this today.

Guess my smith work and aim is still pretty good. I had one dressed and back to the cabin before 7:30 as well with a gun I haven't shot since I was 15 and setup with different scope. The #1 never lets me down.

Not me or my deer. Not to bad, but should be wider for me. I'm very picky about bucks. I like the meat as tender as I can get. There's a reason there isn't any pics of mine from Saturday. Lots of good lean meat. And the first doe I've ever shot. But nothing real large or old.

1917 WWI 8 X 57 Mouser action re chambered for .308. custom trigger, shortened barrel hand made and carved stock, hand made bolt lever. i set head spacing and sighted in today after i finished a couple bushings. i LOVE this rifle and i guess will soon be mine soon.

i need to get my FFL so i can advertise gunsmith. its a dead art these days, but one i grew up with. and all the old guys are retired or have passed no one around here is doing it anymore. this was for my father and of course free lol

The two big on going projects I have are my ski and my 4Runner. It's been a long learning experience and I get considerably better every year. I learned to weld on my plate bumper in the rear, and after that I fabbed a full armor package (front bumper, sliders, skids, etc.). My real pride is in the front suspension though, which I finished designing last year and then fabbed up and this summer spent a few months refreshing and improving everything. It's not the prettiest setup or the best (I hadn't ever even seen a long travel suspension in person prior to making one) but I'm proud of the abuse it's handled at 60mph offroad and some (imo) big jumps. I like building stuff more than anything, and I like the uniqueness factor and pride I have that you can't get from just buying stuff.

And then this is my buddies '87 4Runner which I did the design and engineering for the front suspension on, but he did the fab. A few weeks ago we finally finished caging the engine bay and upgrading the front suspension.

Just found the perfect motor for my next build! Who wants to sponsor it?
30HP and 100ft/lbs of torque. Equivalent of a 60hp 200ft/lb gas engine. But with instant power! =) I think I could do it for less than 10k. Then again ride time would only be around 7ish minutes.

I didn't fab this up today. I made this hammer almost 18 years ago and used it for the first time today. It's never been oiled every cut and chamfer was surface ground and it's kept this long with just a tiny surface rust you can almost rub off with your finger.

I did make some custom bushings for a hand built 4x4 Chevy van conversion for dual stick high and low this morning.

anyone notice the reaper in second pic? that was made by my family shortly after the slaves where freed. they came to work for my family as blacksmiths shortly after. used to have two shops, wish i had pics

I took that picture yesterday, check out the halloween decorations he still has up. I'm not going to tell that guy anything! lol

Tonight I held the vacuum for it to suck up chips while I machined the bracket that is supposed to hold the vacuum to suck up chips...

Afterwards, the vac and mister fold up nicely out of the way.

I just got the first welder I ever used. 40+ years old and I was 7 first time I used it. Honored to add this to the shop.

Just workin on a few billet pieces myself. I cant afford the prices of stuff these days so I just make it. I consider myself lucky to be part of a shop where I can do this. When you get into anodizing you quickly learn where the added cost comes from as well. I don't ever intend to make this stuff high production. A few of my riding buddies have the steering setup as well and for the most part love it.

Anodizing is best done in large batches. There's a place in Cali that does it for like 28 a pound

@ocdsolutions do you not have collets? I see end mills in drill chucks a 5c will get you within 2 thousands. That drill chuck maybe 5-6 if your lucky.

I know why now lol. Its mostly all the part prep that is time consuming because for quality results the parts need to be beyond clean.I bought a home anodizing kit for our shop and it works really good, just alot of work to keepeverything clean. I'm in ontario canada, and the exchange rate is killer right now so I have to keep as much in house as possible
