I watched that same video. I bet it works slick if you can keep the load from hitting the tailgate.
I had to remove the tailgate when I put the work shell on the truck, I was looking at it yesterday , if I just made some new legs for it that would just slide in then 90 degrees to the ground, that would take the load and I could pick up whatever I want as it would have three points of support.

I've been watching marketplace for a manual forklift. They pop up from time to time for under $500 and would be pretty handy.

If I ever decide to pull the trigger on a plasma table, I need to be able to handle 4x8 sheets up to 3/4" so I'm also looking at installing channel down the sides of my storage bay that a gantry type hoist can run up and down in without skewing.

In the meantime, I finally have my new workshop to a point where I can move everything in this weekend. Between my work schedule, waiting on sub-trades, and landscaping our 2.55 acres, it's been a slow build. I'm pretty happy to see it come to an end so I can get back to doing fun OCD stuff again and actually work in the shop instead of on it..

That shop is amazing, you should be really proud of that.

I have all kinds of lifts here, I have a gantry that I had someone build much cheaper that you could buy one for , I also ran across a portable lift with a Harbor freight winch at a local flea market for $75.00, I added some old solid steel wheels to it so I could move it around, the other shop has a davit crane, those are also very useful .

The next thing I am doing is hanging an I beam in the pole barn here, I has very large creosote post holding the barn up, I am cutting the beam to length adding some welded on L brackets and doing a L cut on the I beams, this way they will be lagged through the sides and 1/2 of the I beam will rest on top of the posts, that with a Chain fall and a trolly should pick up any amount of weight I could ever want to move.

I made an attachment for the cherry picker and using a spreader bar that is what I will use to hang the I beam with , I usually have no help doing anything so I have had to come up with ways to do it by myself , I have used this cherry picker for everything from hanging drywall to lifting the work shell off my pickup, it's amazing how versatile it is with some homemade attachments.

I'm $30k over the original budget but more than pleased how it turned out. I designated the footprint and told my builder to make it match the house and he came up with the rest. I literally had no idea what it was going to look like until they started framing and was pleasantly surprised to get a full attic with tons more storage than I had not expected.

I had always planned on a roof over the 12'x 28' lean-to but this is what i envisioned,

I got this STS 750 about a week ago, it hasn't run since 2022, dirty, nasty filthy machine with a totally blown up and disassembled big pin 750 in it , crank and cases were trashed, cylinder liner trashed, head trashed wires cut on coil and CDI box , a real winner worked on this one.

I had an XI that a tree fell on so I had all the parts, the hood and rub rails had been painted puke purple with what looked like house paint, overspray all over the white ski, I repainted the hood and steering cover with single stage Kirker purple metallic and it looked a little bland so I hand cut some graphics out of yellow Oracal vinyl, it's a good ten footer, it's not done yet and is by no means perfect but considering what I started with I am happy so far.

Still have to recover the seat and handlepole pad , add a few more graphics and some footwell pads, she is up and running and sounds really good.

For couches, those are actually pretty fun family machines. They slide around well which keeps the kids entertained. I still have one that I need to replace the midshaft housing/bearing on, I just haven't gotten around to it yet because the kids have moved on to SJs and B1s.

Working on an ovp that uses the stock superjet bushings. Cutting version 2 today. Using cheap handlebar risers.

Buddy has a 650sx that I like to help keep running on a shoestring budget. I used to hate these skis but he's the only friend that hasn't upgraded to a super jet so it's kind of fun to tinker with now since we all have boringly reliable and predictable superjets.

List of mods to-date:
  1. He was rear-ended with his 650 on the back of his truck (hitch hauler). His bond line experienced a 12" long crack you could see day-light through.
    1. Solution - Flexseal tape (floats and doesn't let water in after a year)
    2. We bent the V1 hitch hauler back to shape and welded some gussets to it as well, so that things still kickin.
  2. His rideplate cracked
    1. Initial solution - Flexseal tape (held up to the fury of a WOT run both on stock 28mm pencil sharpener inlet sized carb and an upgraded SBN44)
    2. Update below...
I enjoy doing various cast aluminum work with my mig's spoolgun setup. It's literally like a hot glue gun for bonding who-knows-what aluminum alloy A to who-knows-what aluminum alloy B. For known alloys (specifically non-cast) I have a nice primeweld 205 that tig's like a dream but for everything else - blast it with the spoolie.

Always wanted to try this - we'll see how it holds up. I keep telling him, 650sx don't deserve no $200 ride plate lol, save that money for a superjet.

I flap wheeled it and sand blasted it to give it a little better finish.

I have a tig, but you’re making me want to buy a spool gun and see how easy it really is. I suck at tig until I practice for 20 minutes every time.

I’ve got a syncrowave 350 that I need to learn how to run on aluminum. Too many other project though. Currently building my own house. Running power and water into the foundation now, hopefully pour well pit walls this week. New septic is on the list next week.

The spoolgun has made working on oddball aluminum projects super fun. Just as easy as mig especially if you have a good autoset machine (I love my vulcan migmax215 and 3 other people that use the normal big name brands have bought one after using it as well). I've done a few baffle plate installs on my friends bmw oil pans with it as well and they have had no issues over the last few years.

Tig is fantastic for materials of known origin like sheet 6061. But for cast aluminum I just don't have the patience to figure out the right settings.

Miller has a bunch of videos and written pages that are really helpful for TIG. There's one page that has a picture of a good weld then pictures and a brief description of all the problems you could have. It has the picture and says "this is what it looks like if you're not using enough gas". It's super helpful. That page alone taught me how to TIG aluminum. I prefer it over my MIG now.

Spool gun is spray transfer when done correctly. And you need a good machine to properly spray aluminum. Globular doesn't work well. Therefore spool guns are best to material 3/16 and thicker.

I have a spoolgun for my Miller 211. Maxed out is barely enough for proper spray transfer. You should tig aluminum anytime you can where not pressed for time

Edit. You can globular weld with a spool gun. People do it all the time. But it's weak and dirty. Will it hold. Probably. Would I count on it? No
