What do you use for Trailer Bunks?

What have you guys used for trailer bunks?
Mine are junk. I have thought about a few different things. Thought about PVC, but I have to span about 3' gaps between supports on my trailer and the PVC wouldn't be strong enough. My carpeted wood bunks always need to be re-carpeted to stay looking nice. I thought about just raw 2x4's but that doesn't look real nice.
My best idea so far is using a composite wood like a trex decking material. It is a little hard to find in 2x4's and seems really expensive. At least with this stuff I could buy it in a grey and not have to cover it.

Any other suggestions?

Yeah, next time I'm not even going to paint them. The paint flakes off after a while. But I've been running them for 2 years now with no problems.

Ha, The carpet just never lasts long enough. I would like to do something different so I don't have to ever touch it again. A raw uncarpeted 2 x 4 would probably be plenty functional, but it just doesn't look good.

But carpeted rails make it fun to romove 300# skis from the trlr after a hard days ride. Your gonna miss out on that if you go with teflon?????

Why not just treated 2x4's with bevelled edges?

Carpe is crazy moronic IMO.

The wood grips the hull pretty well IMO - with the teflon it slides right off. Carpet slides too, but not as well as teflon and it ends up needing to be replaced when the corners wear through.

If they made 2 x 4's in pretty colors I would be all set. I was hoping for something grey or black. I'm stupid like that.

I would live it if some paint would rub off on the bottom of my ski occasionally - might make it look better! :bigok:

Been running pressure treated, carpeted with Bunk Mates. They work great. I am sure they scratch things up a bit but so will the 2x4 when the carpet wares.
I am thinking not to carpet next time. This way water won't be held on the 2x4 by the carpet and you can see if there are any problems.
With the Bunk Mates, the hull never touches the wood.
Have them on my shop stand too. Makes moving things a lot easier but are really slippery.

I use Redwood 2x4's with teflone strips on top. Redwood looks nice unfinished and usually has very little blims and knots. Also redwood is very resistent to weather and rotting. Be sure and counter sink your screws into the teflon if you go that route.
