what temp are you running your rrp pipe at???

i know there are quite a few of these out and floating around now, im wondering if any of yall have played with chamber temp? The main question i have is how hot is too hot? Or a stay below x temp. Thanks
 
i have heard that 350 is the temp that the resin starts to break down, But i'm assuming that its internal temp. I want to know exterior temp since there will be a difference. But thanks for the info dude.
 
Well to get an accurate answer to this question would require testing the chamber to find the temperature where it starts to break down. With the cost of one, I don't think any of us want to intentionally destroy one. I've heard of some suffering damage to their chambers already, but that was inadvertent and I don't think they thought to measure temps at the time of meltdown- they probably had other thoughts going through their heads...
So, I'd expect the manufacturer to do a test like that. For some reason, I don't foresee that happening, though...

Running a 120 jet in 57 to 60 degree water and pipe temp is right below 100 but the hit is good riding flat water.

Switched to an 80 jet and temps still below 104, but exhaust sounds more noisy/raspy/barky now and the hit seems the same or slightly less with louder exhaust noise.

Restricked the water box with a 2.5 carb seat and exhaust got louder, more raspy/bark but no more power.

So far it seemed the pipe system likes backpressure & water

Just switched to a bigger pv engine so have to re-check it but I think I'll tune the pipe based on hit not temp.

interesting, the water temp here is in between 55 and 60. I dropped down to a 60 jet in the pipe, seemed to make more power and more noise. Pipe is nice a warm, like you can hold your hand on it for over 15 seconds.

Iam trying to differenciate between noise and power when I made these adjustments. First adjustment I made was restrict the water box line, this was my first indication of more noise without an increase in power/hit. Later I switched jets and noted the same thing... The increased noise is real obvious, but the changes in power/hit is much more subtle. The noise gave me the impression of more power, but to be honest I can't say I felt an increase.

I'll have to try a 60 too and see how it goes.

I moded my water box to clear this bigger engine, haven't tried it yet but heres a pic

well i dont know that it made a huge difference, i am figuring out some other issues at this time. Once i get my other issues squared away ill do more testing. Im also playing with different spray bars.

@badvinny, the only way to tune a RRP pipe is by it's temp isn't it? How else would you adjust the timing of the return wave for all the different motors these run on?
 
I woulldnt tune by heat because of the damage you could cause to get he carbon. This pipe works very well, Hiro tuned it so trust him. Attached is the drawing I was supplied.IMG_00000179.png
