What's your view look like today?

My view today has taken a few years to achieve... had this neighbour who built a double storey in front of my house which obscured my view of the ocean , mountain and city surrounds.

So I had to buy the air space, which resulted in a demolition of sorts...still in progress, but the view is back ! Its incredible how many times it can change depending on whether its early dawn, bright daylight, dusk, full darkness...and when I come back from a day in the surf, I can sit down, have a few beers and chill and be happy.

actually the house in front exceeded their height allowance in our estate, but because it was built before the Body corporate finalised the Estate constitution, they were not obliged to conform retrospectively. My house does conform so the neighbour behind me across the road has great views.

I am now also the new owner of a very expensive and only single storey house in the estate....but its wheel chair friendly and set up for assisted living, so rental income will be quite high

Explain “buy the air space”. Certainly you didn’t pay for air space above your own home since you already own that.

I had to lodge a height servitude ammendment to my title deed as the dominant property and also the same height restriction servitude against the servient propertys (in front) title Deed at the Deeds office....which cost me about 10 dollars and a bunch more in lawyers fees. The reason why it only cost me 10 dollars is because i had to buy the house in front first and then I could pretty much gift the view above it to myself by changing both title Deeds.....I can now sell it, should I choose to, but the title Deed cannot be changed because I effectively own the air above the house in front.

There are many case studies online in how this works....hotels in particular protect their views this way if there are properties in front of them that are only a storey or two.

Expensive view then but totally worth it if you love your current home. Even better if you can make a buck off the investment and protect your view at the same time.
So did you tear the entire house down or just remove the second story?

Came across this salvage yard traveling off the interstate yesterday! I would build a house around all the cool things they had for sale. The pictures do not really represent how much was really in there. And there is a 2nd floor loft we didn’t get to see.But we 57A919B5-9858-4CBE-A90D-1A56F359DD81.jpegFE331D3C-E5A6-4995-A361-A87735DA9119.jpeg06E9F764-7476-4156-99E9-9BFB0585A4EE.jpeg9FEF6D7C-5371-486C-87BC-19353E993538.jpegE6754533-C881-4130-9DD6-8E27112AC945.jpegD0B893B2-5197-4E38-A7A2-B5548BE5F9EE.jpegC252B3A9-F4B9-49B8-8742-34F470FD5B36.jpegwill be going back!

Fortunately the second level was just an entertainment level, which we took down and recreated in front of the existing ground floor The house we live in has significantly more value than before as it has fantastic views from the two upper levels....the one in front will earn good rental until we are ready to sell, hopefully for as much as the whole exercise cost
