I feel incredibly old. There is standup jet ski stuff on Facebook? Seriously..where? If there is nothing going on here or on PWCYesterday I have no other options.....that I know of.

My big question is how will things work once the 2-stroke ban goes into full effect? Supposedly in 2012 we won't be able to register new 2-strokes, right? Do we buy a Rickter 'kit' and put it together then title it as homebuilt? I haven't looked into it too much, but 2012 seems like when things will get really difficult.

Well... it is the END of the world right? So who cares? :beerchug:

hmmm. if they make it hard to register a new ski it looks like we will all be riding on transferred vins. It seems thats the way a lot of the aftermarket hull sales go anyway.

I've maybe posted here 1 or 2 times in the past couple of months since I've been away at school simply because I'm focused on a bunch of other things right now and simply don't go on here. I plan on hitting the site up some more over breaks and come spring since I have some build plans for some friends skis as well as my own.

I think it's just that there's a lack of hope left in this sport. There's no new manufacturers and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole sport died off and skis just sat in garages collecting dust.

I though of getting out several times since the season ended for me. My season ended mid august for school, ski didn't run right until late July, then bilge pump went out on my last ride and spent the whole day on the beach except for a borrowed ride.

Truth is, why worry about it dying off now? I'm gonna enjoy it as long as I can, have as much fun as possible, and then when it dies, find something else to do and have as much fun as possible doing that.

I have just as much fun on the beach as I do on my ski.

Dirt bikes are fun, off-roading is fun, cars are fun, motorcycles are fun, quads are fun, fishings fun, huntings fun, supermoto looks hella-fun!!. Enjoy it as long as possible then find something else fun to do.

As long as I'm having fun I don't care what I'm doing

Which is a bad way to do it. All you need to do is bring a receipt and list of goods to the DMV to get a homebuilt title and a VIN issued.

We may be on 4 strokes in 2015 or maybe our ES1 project or something similar will be a viable boat at that point and everyone will be electric. Or maybe we all still be on two strokes in some form or fashion, but I don't think things die just because the manufacturers who at one point were the driving force behind the sport have moved on. We are very fortunate to have a good aftermarket. Regardless of how any one persons feels about riding at the any certain point in time, riding stand-ups is a great activity that is a lot of fun. And so long as there are people with the kind of passion we have now in the sport, we will be able to develop and sell new product...

That depends on your definition of a manufacturer. There are tons of new hull manufacturers. And it is pretty easy to build a boat these days without using a single part from an OEM. It is quite expensive to do that...but very easy.

Definitely, and when/if I build another boat, it will be an aftermarket/hull motor combination most likely. But for people looking to get into the sport that want to buy a "new boat" it's very discouraging.

Can't argue with that...and the lack of a dealer network to buy new products with a warranty and a place people can get their boats serviced is a big problem.

wow what a happy feel good thread.....

i dont know.. i left the uk 5 years ago and the stand up scene was growing and still is, freestyle is becoming more popular amongst riders

since coming to canada in 2005 i have seen the community grow, stand ups are almost impossible to get here so there have been many imported from the US and the machines have got alot better too, the rides that get thrown together alwasy have a good turn out

i still think the scene here is growing, but many riders dont frequent forums as they either dont know about them or are fed up with teh drama and know it alls

in regards to the new OEM machines... we cant buy them here anyway.. the newest ski i have seen is an 08, everything else is older.. hull wise.. with the exception of the amount of am hull here which is also growing

this scene isnt dying.. take for example wavedaze it has grown every year

we still have the the normal "where do you sit" "do they still make them" "can you take me out for a ride" but we do our bit to grow the community and help out new and potential riders as much as we can, from helping find skis to riding...

chin up guys... the sky isnt falling

Anyone who is questioning why they own/ride jetskis, needs to take a few days and go to some easily accessible surf spot (like daytona) and do nothing but surfride some nice waves...all day, for a couple days. If you question why you spend the money, and time wreching after that you probably should sell your stuff. I always liked riding skis on flat, but after one trip to Myrtle Beach where I rode my ski in surf everyday I was completely addicted. There is nothing like getting blasted by the salt spray, and having a break all to yourself, to just put you in that perfect state of mental nirvana.

Wow very cool thread. Made me think, there are a lot of good points brought up, most have already been mentioned. My opinion is that the OEM's leaving will push R&D, more smaller business, maybe a few complete stand up builders within the next 18 months, to replace Yama and Kawi. I think it's good, the economy, weather, etc has got everyone in the US down. Look at the rest of the planet, I think you are going to see, and ride new equip very soon that will cost more, but push us to the next level that we need to add new riders and get this sport the recognition it deserves.

Alright Jett, you had to know this could go comical/south at some point.......

If you want the post count on the X to skyrocket overnight-bring back the #1 crap sling man from SFL. lol jk

I got all fired up about the oems bailing on us and thought about it for approx 2 seconds and realized one thing-WHO NEEDS EM? How many oem parts are on your CURRENT ski? Mine is a short list, hull, mtr mounts, start/stop switch, pump shoe, drive shaft, wear ring, stator, midshaft. If Yamaha were to put out a 5000.00 rebate on a 2011 SJ would you go buy one? Me neither, total waste of money that would buy more aftermarket parts.

Oh, last point to make-if you really want to gauge the economy in the US, plan another RIOT RIDE and see how many show up. Look at the Daytona Ride that Nick puts on-HUGE!!! I really don't see much for growth in the near future-but I don't see the 'sport' dying either. The whole political thing will dye down in a couple of years and things will slowly get back to normal. The republicans allowed rape at the pump which lead to a major crash and then we got CHANGE and now we are anxiously awaiting republican power once again. My ignorant opinion is that this is all cyclic and will be until the end.
