Did you ever put the meatier tires on that bike? And was that road riding or dirt? It looks pretty awesome...
I did put meatier tires on it, I upgraded the frame too. The tires go off and on depending on what I'm doing sometimes its meaty up front and road slick in the rear. :bananapowerslide:

it was road riding, 15+ miles of hilly roads on and around S.R.52. a guy who rode it with me is supposed to send my the mapmyride link

here is the current stable...

It's a lot of fun and a great work out. I'm hooked.

it is! once you get passed the first like 6 miles your like "ok i can do this"

ive been riding to work and around town alot but this was the first time id gone to a "ride" with our local bike shop. there were 85 people in the group last night. it was cool to be up front and look behind and see 80 flashing lights.....:bananapowerslide:

ill be there next week! i want to put another tooth up front though, i was "spining"(could only get half a peddle in each peddle) at high speeds trying to keep up with the front.

my bikes nothing special, 250 bucks.....

you need some kind of foot retention even if it's just power straps. It makes long rides a lot easier because you can pedal up with your back foot. you can sustain a higher speed a lot easier that way.

I keep telling my fixed gear friends I'm in it for the cog/chainring changes, screw riding. I've now got 4 bolt on cogs and 2 chainrings and I swap them all the time. :dunce:

once you start modifying your bike you can't stop. I'm ready to build a new wheel set with real quality parts and maybe try out some bullhorn bars.

I swapped out my clipless pedals for standard platforms...I like being able to bail out whenever I want to. Granted, I am losing some pedal efficiency by not having anything, but I have seen too many of my friends get really messed up because they couldn't escape the bike fast enough.

I can understand that for off road but on road Id rather have foot retention.

I like to wear my converse/vans thats why I run clips and straps. clipless is for roadies with full Lycra kits.

Unless your doing big jumps. Clipless Pedals are the most effecient pedal forms. You create energy not just ond the down stroke but on the upstroke as well. They do take time to get use to but maybe once a year I have a problem getting out. Last feb I turned a corner, went wide into a small gully, front tire dropped in. I knew I was screwed, gonna go over the bars and get body slammed. Well, front end came to a stop, shock compressed, rear end came up and over. I literally stepped out of the pedals and over the bars and literally walked away from it. Well, more of a quick run, skip, jog, stop.... then clean out my lycra biking shorts!.

You can have the tension set too tight making it hard to unclip. Just have to play with them.

man yesterdays bike ride was a blast.....NOT..... got a rear flat about 5 miles out, rode for 2 miles on a flat to where the group was supposed to meet so i could get a tube, they took an "unexpected turn" and didnt head there, patched my tire with a stupid sticker patch kit. it was lasting my gas station to gas station...........

headed back to my truck on a flat, pry rode 7 miles on a flat, was doin about 20-23 mph, had to maneuver between a light pole, a trashcan and bench, and a no parking sign.... leaned right, tire slipped off the rim.... BAM hit the thrash can, rolled and slid across the side wal to end up in the gutter with water....

What were you on?

Here is a trick, next time, find a bunch of leaves, tall grass, anything that can be wadded up and packed, fill the tire full of this, add air if you can. This way you can somewhat safely ride back without damaging your rims.

I have had those days as well. Last time out on my main bike (Fisher Sugar full suspension) It just seamed like nothing was working right. Rear shock just was not working right, just nothing was going right, fighting the bike the whole way. Ends up, I had a bent crank arm. Rear shock lost its rebound dampening, so every bump the shock slammed back, felt like getting hit with a 2x4 on the ass. The bent crank arm I never really noticed, I could tell something felt wrong, I thought it was from the rear bushings being warn out on the rear end. Went out the next week on my hardtail and it was a better ride except the front fork will not hold air so by the time you get through, you can lean forward and compress the shock all the way.

Wow, I have snapped two different sets of crank arms.... never been fortunate enough for them to bend on me.

Ok, My hardtail started out as a S.S. Built it up from parts off ebay 4 years ago. High end Kona Ku (Hand build frame). But with the verticle dropouts it did not work well, used a singlator to keep chain tension but it did not work well. May convert it back and just use a derailure to control the tension.

where you bolt the rear tire is called a dropout. You have horizontal dropouts, you slide the wheel back to tighten the chain. MTB's use vertical, so for a single speed converstion you have to do something to keep the chain tight. Singulator is just a chain tensioner. Another way to take the rear shifter (derailure) and set it up where it does not move, it will keep the tension for the chain.
