Freestyle Whos had a throttle cable stick

Want to know because Im thinking of removing the lanyard function on my ski, and was going to set it to not idle. I did this for about 6 months when I first got the ski due to a bad ss switch. I was always just a little bit sketch on wot bails. I have been riding with a normal switch on this ski for a lil over a year now, and the lanyard gets in my way a whole lot. A few times down right dangerous because of certain sections here on the river.

Has anyone had a cable stick causing their ski to leave them in the lake while it plows itself onto the shore only to seize itself? Buddy did some weird throttle on his 650sx, and I personally watched it leave him in the river and smash itself into rocks. Needless to say, there is a reason why 650sx are so heavy.

ive had my lanyard fail. idle down is smart, as a back up to the lanyard. i bailed at wot only to watch ski idle down and continue motoring across lake, had images of it torpedoing a old wood chris craft as i watched it drive out of site. thankfully a boat wave changed its direction and ran aground with no damage. scary

Consensus seems to be to keep the lanyard, so I will. Does anyone have solutions to stopping it from getting wrapped in the bars constantly, or getting yanked out? It happens at least once or twice every ride? Ive broken 3 or 4 of them.

I have one for a polaris now, longest Ive seen, and strongest Ive seen. It gets wrapped around the ss all the time. Wearing it on the vest is what cause it to break the times it did. Its not that big of a deal it being wrapped around the bars, as I can unwrap it while riding. Its more it being pulled out when this happens and I dont know, and then my ski dies in the river and Im floating backwards trying to plug it in. It hasnt been a major issue yet, but I have bad luck and am waiting for it to happen at the wrong place and time, Like by our manyu bridges

I will try wearing it on my right wrist today, although I think thats going to make it worse? We will see. I appreciate the replies, and if anyone has any other advice, Id appreciate it.

I always used to keep mine zip tied open until I saw one of our riding buds ski get away from him as we all watched from shore as it was wide open heading for a dock and somehow nosed in at the last second died and began to sink. So from then on I worried about it happening to me with boats all around and something really bad happening, needless to say I use a lanyard now. When I do hood tricks I'll wrap it around my bars and hope the throttle doesn't ever get stuck

Do what you want, but know it's much more dangerous to run a zip tie than lanyard. I can understand why guys do it in the surf... But the river? Why?

Edit: I guess it also depends on what river :)

Funny I started this thread yesterday. Just today riding my lanyard got wrapped around my throttle and slid between the trigger and the mount, and locked my throttle open. No joke.

I have also done some more enthusiastic subs and the ski shot out of my hands and the lanyard slipped off with it. Now I loop it better though.

Afterwards I tried using it on my right hand, and as weird as it sounds, that worked for me, no more hang gups or random shutoffs. Thanks all.

Anyone remember WF's 2009, Pro Freestyle? WDK1200 REV going WOT straight to the beach.. Stuck throttle, no lanyard. I can't ride without a lanyard, I've seen way too many skis go across the lake because of stuck throttles.

Lanyards are good!

Seen many runaway skis in surf and on lakes. Can be dangerous to riders and anyone on the water, ski can collide with something(land, boat) and sink, etc., etc.

I don't see why there would be need to run without a lanyard. It's not like it's a cinder block chained to you, it's a tiny cable and clip...

I run a zip tie. No lanyard. Over rotate a roll off a huge wave then struggle to get your lanyard back in and ski started as a double overhead wave comes and smashes you and rag dolls you for who knows how long all the way down the beach. Nearly dwowns you and see how much you like lanyards...
