Freestyle Why do freestylers.....

So after watching world finals pro freestyle this weekend it got me wondering? Why do freestylers spend so much money in order to do four or five tricks? It was just the same thing over and over again. Just my opinion. Thoughts?

Ummmm....because it's impressive as hell. Seeing it in person I got butterflies in my stomach seeing the amplitude they get and it's amazing the combo's that they can string together with those setups.

Add to the list:

Madonna flip
No handed nose grab flip (I think Daniel Martin did this?)
I thought one guy did a Ghost Rider flip but it was after his time had expired?

Because a lot of these guys including myself are trying to push the sport. To most people behind their computer screen may think its boring. To the ones out there doing it, it's very hard and physically demanding, it also gets the croweds and judges pumped. If it wasn't for competitors than I don't think companies would be producing the equipment they are doing now.

What other extream sport do you land one big trick and in the blink of and eye go into another trick non stop?
If everyone was out there doing bulldogs, power 360s, subs and fountains people on this site would be complaining about that. Another thing people keep complaining about is how they dont see old school tricks. Judges don't want to see it, that's just a fact and us as competitors aren't going to waist all our time and money to impress some key board jockyies and loose in competition.
540s
Underflips
Flairs
360s
Rolls
Doing all those tricks both directions
Flips
Superflips
All the above tricks but with body parts off

A lot more than 4 tricks if you ask me

Agreed Jace!! You tore it up and I can only wish that one day I can do half of those tricks, hell doing one backflip is hard enough for the average person including myself. I for one am thrilled with the way the sport is progressing, new school tricks are jaw dropping and only a select few can perform them, let alone all the variations and combos you guys can do. Almost anyone with a bit of practice can do the old school tricks on any old hull.

I'm glad I got to shake your hand at body beach and congratulate you.

Yeah it was good to meet you man. Wish I could have come over and ride your footrocket. I was so swamped letting people demo my ski. Thanks for the offer thou!

Why do runabout racers spend so much cash on their sit down skis just to turn right and left? Why do parents put their kids on open class stand up skis to race? Why do X2 racers blow up so many engines? The world may never know...

I thought trick progression was great this year! Amazing riding and creativity. I think I saw Eli do a surf stance flip? And the amplitude riders are getting now is incredible...

Hood tricks are still a blast, but like Jace said...

Watching the Pros from 100 feet away is a completely different than from a live feed on a computer. You have to see it in person to be impressed and appreciate it imo.

This year was pretty sick, I was there last year too... this year was leaps and bounds ahead of last year. Go back and watch Rok's championship run, then watch either Ant or Stone from this year... major progression in the sport. The height the Japanese team was getting - amazing! The guy on the SXR pulling off hood tricks was pretty awesome as well - HOOD TRICKS, FTW!!!

Hood tricks are a blast, I still jump on a superjets and do them. It's where it all started. Just not what is going to be done in AM 900 class and Pro 1200 class. Maybe if they'd start a 800 oem class people could see them in competition again

Why do you ride a jet ski? I take it your ski is stock? I bet $100 you cant even do those 4/5 tricks? Troll for sure, I cant even backflip yet but I can tell you it ain't so boring when you yourself can actually land tricks.

That is blasphemy around here! LOL Every activity is the same in this regard whenever it draws an audience. As popularity builds, money flow goes parabolic. Eventually we top out, the tricks start looking the same and the crowds lose interest. At this point the equipment is too expensive and participants begin to drop out. Remember when racing imploded after 1995? Everyone was tapped out, racer and spectator alike. This sport should hold spectators better than jetski racing since the action is closer to the crowd. It will always be exiting for both participants and spectators at all levels.
