The guy that won the National Amateur comp year before last was on a cracked up waterlogged stock hull with a rather mild motor. He easily beat the entire field and it wasn't even close. Hulls and motors help, but even if the rest of the field had been on 40k skis, he still would have won. Don't get so hung up on equipment. It helps, but it isn't magic.

You guys in reg.7 are lucky! At least you have enough people to have a freestyle class. Here in reg.6 they're lucky to get more than 2-3 people to enter. Seriously, if I could enter every event I'd win the region without doing anything but ride in circles, because most riders only enter a couple events. Sad

The only, only event where I have ever been grouped with the Pro's was at the APBA National Tour Stop at Lake Norman. All other Regional races, AM's are seperate from the Pro's.

If you went to the ones in Orange Beach 2007-2008 Those were APBA National stops. Your points would still apply to regional standings.

The Race in Gulfport was not an H2Ox event.

in the uk along with the normal am and pro classes they do a am freestyle competition where they all use the same ski provided by the organisers.. so it keeps the playing field completly fair.. be interesting to see

Where do you even find the info on these events just to go and watch. Most of you guys seem to be on the other side of the country but I try to find IJSBA and APBA events around me to go and hang out at and I can never seem to find any. Am I just looking in the wrong spot.

i do beleive that should possibly be another freestyle class. maybe add in a intermiadate for the AF hulls and motors. but i do think adopting these new rules will help push our sport.... becuase if the AM rules were stock boat setup.. then when you moved to pro itd be a HUGE jumpp.... So maybe we just need another class.
anyone agree?

I just posted about this above.
The rules were changed to have 2 different Amateur classes a few years ago. One class with stock hull up to 800cc and the second Am class can use aftermarket hulls up and up to 900cc.

But they just reverted it back. Now you can run whatever you want in the Amateur class.

Yes Spencer can ride, thats for sure. I hung out with him at Body beach and at the bars during World Finals. Hes a great guy. He was on a XFT hull last i knew, then he sold that to Jared. I dont know what he is doing now.

Oh so Jared bought a new xft?
Wellthose rules would be totally cool to have two clases but if I show up to an event with my rev hull and a 828 there should be no reason why I should have to ride against top pros when I'm only an AM.... Weather or not all the Riders
in AM are on stok boats or q8s... Cuase I know of am
riders on stock SJ hulls that would smash on me in a comp....

so you can run whatever in the AM class now? no motor size requirements? i deff think there should be an engine size limit if you can run any size hull?

should be more like racing

Beginner ski
Novice Limited
Novice SS
Expert Limited
Pro/AM Stock
Pro/AM Vet
Pro/AM Masters
Amateur Open
etc
etc

That way everybody would have a class to win in!

I seriously like the 3 class system of the APBA dunno why they would change to the IJSBA rules.. I guess to streamline towards WF..

Up here we are lucky to have more than myself out on the course at lunch.. For a while there I just gave them 30 bucks for the trophy and made some noise while ppl cooked hotdogs.. We got a few freestylers just they just like to come hangout with friends more than the competition thang. I always enter at every event to support the club and hopeful bring in more riders to the freestylin side.. But I end up staying out too long and am gassed a bit when the afternoon motos start.. You should have to pay to have that much fun! oh wait you do....
