Which novels, specifically?
All of them.
The one that finally topped the line was the Dreamcatcher. I almost puked a few times when I was reading it... The dude has lost it, IMO.
We unloaded about half ton of his masterpieces, hardcover. I went from being a great fan to a hater in a matter of only 20 or so years.

Ha, I couldn't agree more.
The early stuff was greatness - It, the various short stories, and my favorite, The Stand.

Runnin XPSP3 here too, no problems. Other than the fact that you need a new patcher to run the ported vista theme :)

For you guys running ubuntu - how bad was the switch? Is it useable by a die-hard windows fan? or is it like switching to a Mac without the attitude problems?

It took a little bit of getting used to. Once you're accustomed to where everything is, it seems like second nature.

hey matt what are the tweaks for vista to make it run better? Any links for good reading on doing it?

This dude has taken the time to type so much stuff I can barley believe it. It took me 10 years to figure out what this guy shares for free. I love his site. But I got kicked from his forum for arguing with some dude. LOL.

It is a ton of reading and learning. You can easily kill a service and have no idea what you just did and not be able to get it back. After 98, I thought it was a lot to memorize in XP, and now Vista is just disgusting. I have been reading about all of the services in Vista for 2 months on and off and I still don't understand 70% of them.

Your basic 2 places to go are:

Click start

type in services.msc and take a peek and do a lot of reading.

the other of course:

Click start

type in MSCONFIG and click the start up tab and see whats going on in there.

Read BV's site. He really has gone out of his way over the last decade to document the tweaking of MS OS's.

I also have to recommend to anyone that has a external hard drive to buy a copy of r-drive. It is super simple imaging software. So one you get your machine totally set up and dialed in and tweaked you then create an image of it on to your external drive. If you ever have issues you simply boot to the CD that you can create and then you direct the image on your external hard drive to the internal and bam you are back to perfection in 10 minutes....or 1 hour in my case (70BG image)

I have been using it and I love it!

OH snap! Thanks madmat, I've been trying to do this with Ghost unsuccessfully for a while now. Can't get it to work with an external drive for some reason. I'll have to give that a try.

Not sure I follow. How is finding a 16yr old thread on a forum any more special than finding an old book, sitting on the shelf in a library? Isn't it exactly where it's supposed to be?

Now, had the thread been active on the subject all along...

What are your opinions on it? the computer I have is new and it is Windows Vista premium ready. Which means I bought it right before they were intalling it in the computers but I can send them a receipt for the comp. and my address and they will send me windows vista free.

I already sent them my stuff to get the program free but my question is, Should I intall it? Ive read a few places that all my programs probley wont run on vista and it will cause more problems than its worth. I know close to nothing about computers, what should I do? just keep xp and sell the vista program?
I like Vista. It has some good improvements and finally I can install a printer without a lot of driver issues. XP is still better performance wise, but gotta be looking in the future and not the past.

I was playing around in Windows CE last week trying to modify the install pack to ignore the OS and load some modern software. It was a no go, lol.
