:Banane35: My friend and i just picked up 2 rn sjs in pretty bad shape. Hulls are solid but motors are locked up. They both need a complete rebuild.
We are both on a budget, but we have all winter to do this..

:puke:I already have a good idea about what needs to be done to reinforce the hull, shorten stock pole, and we have the means to fix all cosmetic issues.

:starwars: Basicly I'm not sure what direction to go in with the motors. I would love some insight. Any info you can give me on the dos and donts. This will be a first for both of us, we grew up on kawis, so we're not very familiar with the Superjets. (and i know, i Know. Ive heard it all, all my life. you superjet guys love to preach. ;) Well this deal was too good to pass up, so i finaly get to see what every one has been sayng)

:brap: <---<< Basicly we both want the same thing. We ride in land lakes 90% with the occasional great lake visit (no where near salt). Responsive low-end power and reliability are a must. flatwater freestyle/ freeride. i have looked into a few options and builder. I have read nothing but good things about Art Gomez, but i have also been looking into Group K big bore. Has any one had dealing with either? or does any one have any suggestions?

Find a good used block, Sport port and fresh hone/ring job. in-expensive and arm ripper!

you could always overbore later also. so its a win/win situation.

at 83mm the sleeve start to become really thin. we ever see people bore stock 61X cylinder to accept 84mm piston, but i dont think engine builder recommend it for longevity of the engine, but im maybe wrong.

Im looking to get a titty bit more power than just rebuilding the stock motor. I am on a budget but money well spent with a braggable result will be worth it to me, I mean I have 5 months until the weather breaks!
So yeah I looked into jet maniacs a little bit. a friend of mine sent his motor in last season. He said the cost was around 1400 dollars for their complete 718 freestyle motor. he loved it, I rode it a few times, and honestly it was hard to hang on when you got on the throttle. My only concern is after 1 full season he blew the top end. Coulda been his error, I haven't talked to him since.
I also spoke on the phone to Art Gomez at jet works. who is very convincing. He was very helpful, extremely knowledgeable, and actually listen to what i had to say, understood what i was trying to build. and tried to save me money in areas where he didn't think I need to spend. We haven't came up with a final cost but it seems to be reasonable. Price for a big bore kit.
Thank you every one for your input!!
please continue .. ill keep posting what I find

Something to think about too...IMO if you don't have a good snappy low end prop it doesn't matter what else you have.

Go with two new or used Solas 13/17 repitched to 13/16 and cut back 3mm (puts the blades as close to the stator as it looks like they can be!) IMO....unless you guys buy a package then do what the builder says...but standard highly modded 701's-760BB (B pipe, 190psi pump gas, MSD, flywheel bla bla) RRRRIIIIIPPPP with this prop and a stock cone and 85mm bored out exit nozzle. (stock is 80mm).

My opinion: YOU can't go wrong with Art Gomez. I've been running his big bore motor for a while now and everyone that rides it is impressed. It outperforms bigger and much more expensive motors.
Listen to what he tells you to run, from air filters all the way to impeller and exit nozzle. He will build a killer setup where everything is right.

I am leaning towards Art, it will take a little bit more money and a little bit more time. but I bought these 2 jets for less than what im going to spend on a pipe. We are doing all the glass/carbon fiber work, and painting/turfing ourselves. So i Feel It is TOTALLY justified if i spend up too $3000 on the motor. (which is about equal to what i would expect to pay for a decent jet this time of year) As far as carbs go, i WILL be using Black Jack carbs no matter what my ultimate decision is. So that's that...
Impellers are very tricky, i learned the hard way on my kawi. i have found that most imps are too aggressive. But different brands are actually pitched differently even with the same "pitch" ?!?!?!????? so i will be asking around HEAVILY when it comes to that, if i do decide on a builder i will absolutely be going with their opinion on impellers. after all they have done the testing to find the best result.
as for shipping the motor to a builder, art is Located in Cali, it will cost me 69$ to ship a 70lb pkg USPS, and it will take a week. so that's not that bad at all.
I would really like some feedback from people who have used Art or jet maniacs motors in their SJs. Like Matt_E!!! excelent to hear from experience
Matt_E Thanks for the insight! perhaps you can share a little more about your set up?!
