Freestyle Xscream 865 Reminder to change wrist-pin bearings every 50 hours!!

DCPTR... those pcs that are laying inside the cases, they are pc of the broken sleeve correct? It looks as though there is surface rust on the one larger pc which indicates that this motor had water in it at some point. May want to pull it apart further and post more pics. Sleeves should be available through x-scream directly or Thrust might even have some available. The cylinder is repairable at least the pc that is missing in the pic. Someone who is good with Tig welding can fill it and repair it. You will need to have the bottom of the cylinder decked and inside port touched up afterwards. Sorry that happened to ya. Best of luck with the repairs

Got my xfs complete 5 weeks ago, had about 60-70 hours on it apparently, ive done about 20 since. Been running it to spec everyday including fogging it after every ride. Yesterday started it up for 5 seconds in the water and sounded like there was water in one of the carbs but before I could cut it, she just stopped. Thought it was just a seized piston till I opened the head and saw a hole in the top of the piston. Been running maxima super m 40:1 and never had a problem, been running like a dream. Can the bullet be welded back up ppossibly? Pretty sure that rod went thru the water jacket at the bottom too, as well as the top of the case, taken a 1/2" chunk from the top of the intake port and most likely the piston sleeve.

You should be able to get that welded up no issues at all. Just need some machining afterwards. You will have to clean up the ports where the weld / damage has hurt them as well. Might be the right time to put in there bigger bore sleeves they make.
Im not sure of the damage to the cases but you most likely can get them fixed as well

X2, ScottS has replaced his 3 times in 2 seasons. Every time he has opened up his engine, he has seen evidence of them failing and so replaced them. I don't put a fraction of the hours on my engine as him so I haven't cracked a bolt on mine yet but threads like this really make we think that I should.

Boyer, my failures were caused by the Epic CDI backfiring, not fatigue. I had no wristpin bearing failures before or after I tossed the Epic. It's a shame that the Epic works great on some ski's and not the others. The concept is great. Warning: If the Epic causes your ski to kick back or backfire, remove it or it will destroy your wristpin bearings and motor!

What did you replace it with, Enhancer? Mine kicked back atleast twice in daytona.

I put the MSD Enhancer back in and the motor has been rock solid reliable since. I lost a little bottom end compared to the Epic, but I am glad to give it up for reliability. If you want to keep the Epic, try replacing your rectifier, it's the only electrical componet that I didn't replace twice.

I'm with you . Same results. Frustrating as all hell

Just had it checked over by my machinist. I can get the cylinder and case welded and get the machining close to nothing. What do the bigger sleeves cost? Would it be a better advantage to put them in? The back sleeve has about 2" left at the top with no damage behind them, so putting a new sleeve in is fine he says. Would I have to port the new sleeve to match the front?

Mine is also kicking back. I recently put a brand new epic in a 865ss and It misfires at start up. Runs fine once it starts, but its a violent start up. From what I've read, the epic magnifies any faults in the electrical system, but can changing the rectifier really fix this, or should I just go back to an enhancer? I actually broke a flywheel at the hub after a couple start ups from the misfiring, but I guess I'm lucky? I also verified the timing on the stator was in the correct spot. Sorry to thread jack, but I think there is a related problem here.

Also going by the feel of the motor when I started it up, it felt like the piston was seizing during cranking, then fired up, 3 seconds later.. Pop. Running ATP flame on xscream 28deg curve, 48novis, pfp
I'll get some photos up this arvo after I clean it up to try make it look pretty again.

Yes you will need to match port the sleeve/ sleeves
Good news on the welding , sort of a win there. I am sure the new cylinder tat team scream are doing are 900cc, may be best to send a message to chuckie on that.
The advantage of going bigger sleeve is it will clean up any damage after its been welded

That's what I was sort of thinking. Just means an extra sleeve to add to the cost. Wouldn't the bigger sleeves reduce the size of the intake channels?

Yes but then no one seems to worry about that anyway and that why everyone is buying big bores. If people were really concerned about building an engine technically right we would all have strokers with smaller bores to allow for max transfer port volume. The good side about a big bore is you can ring craig and adam and pick up a crank cheap. Quite handy for you at the moment. A stroker is alot more money for a crank

Okay so today i opened her up and degreased her, took her to joe's and he says he can put new sleeves in and bring her back to new!
I took it to a prefessional welder and he'll build it up for me to polish it back to original and joe will deck it and press new sleeves in.
Seeing I need to pay for 2 new piston kits, a new sleeve, dome, crank.. Should I go down the path and fork out more for the extra sleeve to go 900cc? Does closing the ports with bigger sleeves weigh up? Or would it be an advantage to go the bigger sleeves for better port matching with the :):):)d cylinder?

wax, if i get it weldeded up to new and get the old sleeve pressed out.. MAYBE get a new sleeve in, I'm sure you'd want to make me an offer on the shortblock ;)
..thats my option #2..

Other question is, what do i use to fill the chunck of epoxy in the intake? Depending on the resins, not sure If I have to rip it all out or if it can be added in and smoothed in?
