I turned it on for its maiden voyage, and it coughed a couple times getting gas through it, then BAM. WOT. It slammed me into the first dock and knocked me off, I took both hand grips with me. I didnt have time to hit the stop button, and I stupidly wasnt using a lanyard. I dislocated my shoulder there. The ski ran off, at about 60 mph. We couldnt even catch it on the sea doo. It was FAST, i have never felt something with so much power.


The ski ran through the bottom pylons of a dock across the lake, smashed into the shore, which was riddled with cypress knees and launched off the incline. We had to pull it down from the tree. The entire front half of the ski is gone. Luckily no damage to the motor, except maybe a burnt piston or two. the gas tank and limited chamber were about 30 feet from the ski/tree. So im hoping it ran out of gas before it burned up.

My Goodness Fox!!!! I'm so very glad you were not injured more (or anyone else for that matter)! I hope it was your left shoulder, so that you can still shift gears in your car??? I know you were so excited understandably... having worked so very hard on the ski! I'm REALLY sorry! It does sound like it has been a bad month indeed overall!!! Things will only get better...tis a New Year, right! :biggthumpup:

Lessons:

1. God has a sense of humor (lol, guess you won't be taken the Lord's name in vain again when it comes to your next ski, huh ... ha ha ha)!

2. You understand now why it is a 4000 year old tradition to allow a female to properly christen your vessel PRIOR to launching! (good thing it wasn't surf...might have been chasin it for a while, lol)

Suzy, you have your original rideplate now, I already put it on. I took mine back. If you decide you like mine better however....

I'm on my way outside to work on my trailer's rails while it continues to warm up, then going to the lake. Bring your ride plate, and I will take both to the surf tomorrow (hard to tell in the lake)...AND my battery please (I'll be putting both skis in, so I NEED it TODAY)! You are welcome to come 2mrrw and ride one of mine. If you wanna make some extra cash to go toward your next ski, I have some stuff over here you can do if it helps you out.

Well damn I bet that was insanely loud. You could probably fit some kind of custom inline silencer with a closer to rear right side exhaust maybe..? Sorry didn't read the thread might not have been able to do anything. I don't think I'd go without anything completely though! I know I'd get my ass banned from the local lake for sure then.

Well It looks like flatt brapp has another 650 donor, and I hope Tom21 will be gracious enough to donate another. As soon as I get another 2 skis I'll start the second thread. At least this time I wont have to go through all the work of trying to get the yama motor to bolt up, and everything will transfer directly over.

As for the exhaust being loud, yes it was, but ive heard much louder and more obnoxious xmetal waterboxed skis. I had 2 full water dumps into the exhaust tube so It was dampened a little.


The bad side is I totally trashed one of the tubbies. I'll probably be able to repair it but it just kinda makes me feel pissed, since SJLouies unfortunate departure I wont be able to get another set.


On the bright side, At least I know my fiberglass, and welding work held up.

If the bedplate or pumpcavity doesnt drop out after smashing through a dock, cypress knees, going airborn and hitting a tree at 60mph I think it can handle the surf.
