Changing the cable isnt hard per say its just time consuming. To make it easy on yourself i would remove the plate and pump to get to the rear hull fitting. Im running a 92 sx motor with the same crank and still on the stock bore its all up to how you maintain any motor. If you plan on using it to do continual full speed runs this is not the motor for you. I recommend the big pin 750 that came in the 95+ on year kawi's.

As long as your clearances are good you should be fine. If you have some major chips in the veins or blueing marks in the wear ring where the impeller would be rubbing i would consider changing out the pump.
