What is the thickness of the yamaha 650/701 head gaskets?

If I was to have my head machined how much would be typical to take off to gain 25-30psi? 0.02 sound right?

I havent pulled the head yet but it appears that the current one has a grey type sealer used on it. Any idea what that could be?

Ya thats what I figured, not sure that $35 is cheap for a gasket though.

Do I need a new head gasket after removing the head or can I just use a permatex sealer and the old gasket?

New hear and have to say it is a great place. Like most late 30's noobs I stumbled upon x-h20 this spring looking to add a little fun to the cottage. Needless to say I now own two 91 sn 650s and two 94 vxr pros. Got both sets for what I consider free and have been riding the crap out of them...
