I cut mine to make the foot taller. Got them in before the Carolina Beach freeride. 26mm padding needs room. :) So far so good.

Partial clog or flaked debris in the reserve pickup? Little piece of thin plastic in the tank? That could move ever so slightly based on fuel movement in the tube. I would back flush the pickups to be sure its clear. It might not be a bad idea to check the switch itself for less than optimal...
