Thanks for the offer! I feel comfortable with how everything is aligned. I will check it on the first ride for any vibration or excessive heat. I am hoping to fire the ski tomorrow. Are you running a scupper or a bilge or both?
I wanted the peace of mind with the strainers. I didn't use the cold fusion tool. I set the pump and shimmed it until I could put the midshaft over the driveshaft and bolt it to the bulkhead without putting any up/down or side/side pressure on it. The trim is a non pro version of Thrust. I am...
I started on some plumbing as well. I am running a strainer for each inlet line. I got these off amazon in 1/2 inch size for 9 bucks. Tonight I am going to start tackling the electrical. My start/stop switch cable is too short to make it all the way down the pole and the wires coming from the...
I hate how the outlet on these PF waterboxes are at an angle. I picked up a 45 degree stainless elbow in anticipation of not being able to connect to the hull outlet with a straight coupler. I was able to make this work however a 30 degree elbow would have been perfect. Still, serviceable. I...
Nice ski! I am sure I will be asking you some questions as I get to tuning this thing. I would love to meet up and have you ride mine after I get it tuned so we can see how close they perform.
I spent the entire evening last night finishing up the blocks for the pipe and waterbox. I actually had to add a few more layers of turf to the tall block than what is shown in the picture. I got them all molded and glued in to where I think everything is in a perfect spot. I was dreading this...
I also got the pipe and waterbox fitted. I had to take some material off of the short pipe block. The tall block fit perfect. I built a block for under the box and between the box and the hull side so it would align perfectly to the pipe stinger. I will glue all the blocks in tonight. One spot...
I got the engine in a shimmed last night. I had my buddy take my couch mounts to his work and mill about 1/10 of an inch off the bottom of the mounts. Lowering them just that much allowed the engine to sit nearly perfect and I only needed a few thin shims to get the couplers aligned perfectly...
Yea, perhaps I will try again tonight. Between that and the damn scupper valve, I had more hours wasted than I wanted to. To get the scupper valve in, I had to shorten the set-screws (from both ends) and custom make a ball end wrench. Next time I might just 5200 the damn thing in and call it a day.
Next was the pole. I used some tape to align the mount then got to drilling. A 2" hole worked perfect for the breathers. Final assembly I used silicone on the top and bottom of the mounts around the breather holes.
I had a pole spring that I was going to use but with it in there there was so...
When I got home I immediately started building it. I started by getting the pump in place. I test fit it and flipped the ski over to test fit the midshaft. I went back and forth a few times, adding and subtracting shims, before it was in a perfect spot where the midshaft bolted right on without...
Picked up the ski from Joe yesterday! He really hustled to get it done so I could get it before the weekend was over and I really appreciate that. Joe turfed the ski for me and it looks great! He even built the pad stop that I thought I was going to have to build! Great guy to work with and I...
The ski is now completely done with the paint booth. Turfing has also started as of last night. I asked Joe for 1 inch on the bottom and 3/8 on the sides of the tray. Orange/black cut turf on the sides and rails and black molded on the bottom of the tray.
Thanks Chase. I figured that is how it would go. Shim the pump to be centered in the opening then place the midshaft over it and see how the midshaft mounting bolts line up to the bosses in the bulkhead. Adjust and repeat till the midshaft slides onto the driveshaft and bolts up without binding.
Question for all you builders out there. I have never aligned a pump before. I am wondering what the process is to make sure the pump is aligned to the midshaft. Do I mount the pump first and see how the midshaft fits over the driveshaft? The last thing I want is any binding between the...
I met up with Joe last night to do a final mock up of all the components. We got it all marked for the final strap boss locations and determined that I have to mod my couch mounts only very slightly to get the alignment correct. The ski is getting its final coats of clear this weekend. I cannot...
Fuel tank came in on Monday. Its a work of art! Thanks to @LimitedSlip7 for the great customer service and fast shipping. For reference this is the 3.3 gallon tank.
