Use the stem out of a small unused pop rivet. It has the balled end and works just like the tool.

Just flush the tank with your cars exhaust (co2) first and you'll be fine.

Check the simple things first. Make sure the grate and plate are not hanging lower than the hull. If so pull and see why, could be washers added for whichever reason. Is the nozzle stock?
