I bought this back in october in Pismo from Tem. Been busy all winter and haven't had time until now to get going on it. So this weekend I got out the scalpel! Going from full length down to -4.3.
More to come as I make progress...

Chris - If thats what he says it is, and judging by the "Venture" decal on the side, it could be true. There was a company back then making replacement bottoms that glued on to the existing hull, like a skin - you would set your hull down into it and glue it on with silicone or epoxy... instant...
Great job on this project!
The only thing I see that concens me is that the sponsons seem to be really far back. is there a reason for that?
When I bought my white Wamiltons Octane it had those same sponsons on it, mounted in a similar fashion. Perhaps a bit further forward. However I never...
Surprised you still have an Octane, Tom. What are you doing with that dinosaur? Those were cool like 5 years ago! Ha!
Have you tried Wamiltons or Seebolds? Any chance they would have decals collecting dust somewhere? Shame I removed 2 sets of those on mine...
Thanks Charlie! I really appreciate the nod of approval. However I don't think I deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Murf and Tom... those guys flat rip!!! They have been doing it a long time, and make it look like they live on the beach!
As for my background: Riding since I was...
And to add something on-topic to the thread: My setback mag shaft was at least 1/4" too short if not more. It wore badly having only about half of the splines engaged. My mid-shaft was pressed in to spec at one time, but might have gotten bumped forward a little too, making the assembly about...
Yep, I couldnt resist. It had been a year in the making. After riding Cuong's Rickter at pismo last year, I was on the hunt for an a/m hull. Sold my SJ this spring, kept hearing favorable reviews of the freaks. Rode it this year at Pismo - fell in love. Saved me some shipping costs and the...
Yes they are for sale. Tem had 4 hulls for sale at the Finals and at Pismo afterwards. 3 were brand new -5" carbon hulls (neon yellow, neon orange, and turquoise blue). Last one was his used/demo hull full length carbon - Black. As far as I know the 3 new hulls are still available and on...
I think "carving" is such a subjective term... Are we talking carving like an SXR / '08+ SJ - OR - are we talking carving like a tubbied pre-08 SJ? Are we talking dipping an elbow in the water like a 550 or an upright stance in the turn without sliding, or is this carving on the flats or on a...
I'm on my way back from pismo, where I rode my octane (the red OEM one) all week.... gotta say I freakin loved it way more than I would've guessed. It really rocked the pismo surf. Not as quick handling as my previous SJ, but totally fun to ride. Very forgiving... super comfortable... my back...
Ramp at Pier ave was hard packed, river was running about 4" deep, not bad. Getting up off the hardpack was a little tough, wind had been blowing offshore, leaving loose dune sand everywhere.
The guys with the toy haulers down close to hightide line didn't seem to have much trouble. We are...
