Today’s task was to seal some stuff up. Used 3M 5200 (blue) to seal everything. No need for fast cure bc it’s not going into the water tomorrow. But the steering cable tube, 2 water lines and drive shaft tube are sealed from the inside. Will apply the sealant to the outside after I paint the bottom of the hull. Tomorrows task is to start sanding the inside of the engine bay so I can paint it with Bilgekote (white). Alright, another day of tasks complete. Got the engine bay all sanded down. Used 60 & 80 grit to scuff up the fiberglass. Wiped down with acetone afterwards to make sure everything was clean. Taped up the bolt holes for the mounts. Brushed the bilgekote on with just a cheap HD brush. I didn’t do the back wall bc the 5200 is still a little tacky for the water lines that were sealed up yesterday. I’ll get to that once everything is dry. Tomorrow will be the second coat. 1FA7B303-F582-4BD4-81CA-879F199BD686.jpeg36543DEA-206B-4548-B908-0BE76E1F4A25.jpeg

Get the second coat of bilgekote on today. 5200 is drying nicely. Once everything is dry I will flip this thing over and start sanding the bottom to get ready for paint. Going with the epoxy appliance paint for that task

Nice restore .

On your starter, take the two bolts back out and wrap the 2 seams with quailty electrical tape, you may end up with water in the starter if you don't. I always use a new o-ring and tape it.

On the tray, be sure to use polystyrene close cell foam, cut it out and stuff it full. Then use pour foam. 2 part foam will absorb water eventually, so best to use as little as possible. I'd also seal all the seams inside of the tray, to help keep water out.

I was going to use rubber butyl tape for that but then I used the black rvt stuff to seal it. I may still wrap the seams with the tape for extra assurance.
Yeah I’ve been seeing people use both. Some use the beer pong balls and foam n some with the pink HD foam n foam. I just want to make sure I have a steady base of foam to set the piece I cut out to sit on so I can fiberglass it back up strong. I’ll probably take the ski to a marina that I did work for. They use to build boats n still do some refabs so I’m sure they will have some stuff I could use.

So not much done today. Only thing accomplished was flipping her over. Not going to get to anything tomorrow also. Being the pit guy for a friend at a hairscrambles race. Monday hopefully I have some time in between packing for my Bahamas trip on Tuesday. EAA1D781-C389-4101-B991-293023D70842.jpeg

Back from vacay. Got a little bit of time in today to start sanding the hull. Got all the big spots done with the orbital sander. Tomorrow I’ll try to get into all the nooks and crannies. Have to get my parts list out and see what else I need to order.B04D04B7-4AB7-4339-8B97-FEFDD5D86FF0.jpeg

Awesome man! My wife is my pit person at GNCC races....Good luck to you both tomorrow!
I used to race harescrambles myself. Did motox when I was younger. Took some time off n friends were doing woods racing. I decided to get back into it and got hooked. Never did any enduros or gncc’s. Only did harescrambles. Haven’t competed in about 3 years. Did a National dual sport event last November. That was s blast. My buddy who I met through skis just bought a 2018 Beta 300rr. Awesome bike. He did ok for his first competition in over 10 years. He finished the race in 1 piece.

Haven’t been slacking again. I did get a coat of paint on the bottom the other day. Going to do a second today. Got busy doing some maintence on the ktm 530. Also have another project coming up and that’s a 6” lift with some BFG M/Ts to go with my Chevy 1500HD64E21905-DF93-4A2D-A886-B54DB1B7586B.jpeg12378FE2-7466-4294-8FBA-EF45BE89740B.jpeg

Got the bottom all finished now. I did 3 coats of appliance white. Also sealed up the lines and drive shaft area up with some 5200. I ran a line of it around the seam where the top and bottom half meet. 3B2AD927-CE87-4C7D-9C2A-639A6704F8D7.jpegFA03FD11-B0E5-46D9-9C2D-72E6E134D7E7.jpeg

Why did you not glass over the 2 holes in the firewall where the foam was originally poured in?
I haven’t done anything with that area yet except for sealing with 5200. I started to do the painting of the inside and didn’t paint that area bc the 5200 had to dry and I haven’t filled those holes. I was going to look for some plugs to push in and seal but if I can’t find anything that would work I’m going to fiberglass them. I haven’t fiberglassed the tray back up yet too. Figured I’d do everything at once.

Well I just ran into a little something. My original coupler off the engine was cracked. I had the donor 61x engine from the VXR and took its coupler. Went to put it on my engine today and it doesn’t fit. Thought all the 701 cranks were the same. I guess the earlier years had smaller threads. Didn’t know that.

Got the ebox wall painted up now with the 5200 all dry. Also found a make shift plug I can use for the holes in the wall. It’s actually a end cap for a hanger pole for your closet. I have to make the original hole a hair bigger then I can 5200 it in. Also started cutting up some pink Home Depot foam. I don’t know if I’m going to do a drain plug now.A8B59A16-DDDD-42B8-94D6-2454A2881911.jpegAAE5C9BC-BE76-4D75-9BD5-0D124571F516.jpeg0C688712-BE75-410C-81AA-3E4CF183ACF6.jpeg Haven’t found anything that I like. Wanted to find something that I could attached a piece of 1” pvc too and run to the engine area. It’s going to be a time crunch on that. If I dont find anything it’s meant to be. Bilge pump will be it. The plug was mainly going to be for washing purposes.
