Thanks for the correction.

I rode the SJ for the first REAL time this friday after a total gut. Still having a minor carb issue with the rear 38 carb DUMPING fuel into the cylinder while riding (but still not running tooo bad). Besides it eating 1/2 tank in 15 mins..... I just have to center the steering some.

But WOW. This rides NOTHING.....NOTHING like an X2. Turns that the X2 would slide on the SJ grabs and dumps you. I am still getting used to reboarding, as its very slightly harder then the x2. But overall big thumbs up. I cant wait to get my pump with 12/17 mag and TBM in it. Ported 701 motor sounds so F'ing mean with the hood...lol.

If you're not already doing it you'll need to learn to side mount that ski. it's too hard tor reboard from the rear.

very cool! get some video if you can.

Shawn I have seen some needles get hung up on the lever as they have a little bump on em sometimes. keeps it from closing and just floods all the time, also some crap might be stuck in the needle and check the little clear plastic flap on the part of the carb that is held in over the jets with the two phillips.

Thats exactly what I was thinking as well (leaky N/S). I am going to pull the carbs thursday and check popoff and the n/s's. If I cant get it figured out I have another clean set of 38's to slap in. Goal is to have the boat running @ 100% this weekend. I was away traveling for work for a week, then went on vacation the day I got back. Now I can finally focus on getting the SJ dialed in.

You are right about that. I def need to get better at side boarding. I can get back on an x2 (rear or side) real fast, but the bars a bit too high to rear board the sj. Any tips on side boarding?

get on left side of the ski. put your right leg in the back of the tray turn the bars right and gas it.

it shouldn't take a lot of throttle to pull you out of the water when you have it down.

When I first started I'd end up doing a pirouette 2 or 3 times trying to get on and balanced but once you get used to it you get right on.

shawn, I didn't want to fluff you while we were talking numbers but you were one of a small handful of people I would have sold that hood to. Otherwise I would have just kept if forever. It has to stay in the family. I can't wait to see what comes of it.

:beerchug:

Was that Dave's hood, the guy who used to work for Paul Jr. back around 2002 or so?

here's a pic of the original rider..

I was told is was ridden my smitty, not sure if that is dave or not.

That Hood was built by Chris Maros for Dave Natkie. Dave was sponsored by 24-7 at the time until things went south with JR Magoos. Here is a picture when Dave got back from Maros's shop (Ski Freshly Painted).

Had the H20-X SJ out in the surf for the first time Saturday!!! Ripped 2 full tanks over 6hours was an awesome day. My brother rode his 800cc X2 out, and we switched back and forth. Really got to compare the 2. Even with the mystery prop on the SJ (I havent gotten a chance to pull the pump and swap in my 12/17 C75 and TBM), the boat :):):):)ing rips. Sooooooo much fun in the surf. Riding the SJ is like learning to ride all over again, it needs a few more mods...but I can tell this is going to be my primary boat. Jumping the SJ hull is so much nicer/smoother then jumping an X2. I am so stoked to ride this boat. My brother wants one too now...LOL!!

Got the massive fuel consumption problem fixed, with a new N/S on the rear carb. I was playing with the carbs to try to get it dialed. I'd say its 90%. Running the FP mod chamber and I have the carbs jetted 75L 135H 95G springs on the 38's.... I just cant seem to tune out a small mush spot on the low, without leaning it where it hesitates or a nudge the other way and it loads up. My guess is that I just have to jet down to 72.5 and I'll be spot on, but I am not even going to bother. I am going to order a set of Team Scream 46's or a sinlge 48 novi on an ATP....not sure yet.....as soon as I get a few bucks together.

Real build starts right after wavedaze and must be completed before daytona....Footholds, refoam, reinforcement, swap out 760 elec to reg 62T with TBM flywheel, and new carbs.

Good point, I noticed when going over the back of a wave to the front I nosed it in BAD twice. Seemed to want to nose in worse then the X2 did. Tubbies added to the winter check list.
pretty common i think... prolly a forward weight thing. i just TRY to to be very conscious of the fact and keep the nose up @ all cost while shifting my weight as far back in the tray as possible.

with a fixed steering hood you can really get the tubbies to dig in with your weight more forward.
:fing02:... like on rails!
