Freestyle 300 SX build FINISHED!

Can anyone offer me a crash course in b pipe tuning? even with the bottom screw barely cracked and the top closed I cant seem to get this pipe to sizzle. Maybe I should just scrap this headpipe and get another already. Im not too happy with the seller, first it was sold as a 701 pipe, I get it and its a 650 chamber, headpipe has been welded and all the screws are replaced with bolts that was way bigger. Condition described was "mint"

that is not mint. I run mine top and mid closed and bottom open 1 turn
hot, but not quite sizzling
if they retapped the holes and put in new oversize bolts,
the bolts may not be seating on the inside.
Pull the bolts our and see if they were ground down to a V point.
also, you can pull the headpipe and hook it up to a water line in the sink
pressurize and see if the top/mid are leaking
and see how much is coming out the bottom hole
should just be a narrow jet of water

You can ride it with all screws closed for a minute or 2. If it doesn't perform and hit hard, run great, then the chamber sizzles like a mofo, its either those oversize holes letting/leaking to much water through and your loading up till it clears out, or you have some other problem besides the pipe(carb/tuning).

Does it run good once it clears out?

I hav the bottom and top just cracked now. Still no sizzle, but it runs like a friggin champ. I took my lows in to 3/4 turn, and it runs great. My flow valve comes tomorrow, that should bring more goodness. I'm still wondering if I should ditch the wet wolf for the stock cone and see what happens. I'm also curious to see what the v force II reeds bring. Up top it's faster than I care to ever go. Does that mean I can go with a more aggressive prop?

Is your pump nozzle bored? It not, I'd stick with the wolf cone. It its bored out, which most do 85mm then i would use the OEM cone. I had a bored 85mm nozzle and wolf cone and Art at Jetworks suggested trying the stock cone, and when I did I got back some much need pump pressure, that i noticed. In other words if you got a stock nozzle use the wolf cone, it more use oem cone.

When i put V force 2 on my DADA engine w/dual blackjacks I got much more throttle response and snap..

Sounds like you still have to much water flowing through the pipe. The flow control valve will help, but if your screws are still to far open you wont notice much.

The flow control valve helped a bit, it made it louder too. I swear the thing hits from 1/8 to 1/4 throttle. Im hoping its a prop issue and the R&D afterburner fixes that. The bottom screw it like 1/10th of a turn open, and the top is less than 1/8. Last night I opened the top a little and it seemed better, I should go down there now and try it again with more water on the top screw. I did get a chance to ride a stock SXR tonight and It made me feel better about my ski. Tomorrow I will have my reeds and pump stuffer, so as long as I get out of work early enough I should have a (hopefully) good report.

If this dosent work, Im going to buy JetManiac a plane ticket and get him up here to get it tuned.

I went back out. I opened up the top a little more, it seems like Im getting somewhere. I like it where it is now. It feels like the prop is spinning and doing nothing for a half a second right off idle if I cack the throttle wide open. Almost like it needs time to catch up to what just happened. I hope the stuffer helps. tomorrow is another day, and the ups and fed ex man are both due here before I get home!

Ok so to anyone that puts down the pump stuffer by tbm or r&d you are sadly mistaken. What a night and day difference!!! Instant hookup, the motor hits right off idle. Maybe a little more pipe tweaking but holy hit batman. I would swear I changed out the prop if I didn't know any better. I am very satisfied with this build. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I guess next I'll start a for sale thread of all the stuff I won't be needing. And when I get time I'll post a build / cost tally for anyone wondering what a build like this would cost, ( I'm wondering too! ). I'll try to get some videos tomorrow. Don't expect much as I'm lacking in the skills department! But at least now I have the ski to do it all.

Glad to hear you are rippin' now!

Does that mean no plane ticket for me?

Now that you have the pump hooking up maybe try adjusting the low speed screws again.

I did notice the back side of the prop hub still sits 1/4" forward from the stuffer. There is no washer behind the prop. Could I have the prop machined to put it back closer to the vanes? I guess this is what they mean by cutback impeller?

Get some vid of that thing ripping. I want to see it in action. It's been a real nice build to follow and the final product looked great. Strong work. I'm glad it's hittin' like it should.
