Freestyle 300 SX build FINISHED!

Im curious to see what impeller u end up with in the mag. I've been following ur build closely can't wait to hear mag results. Does it not have enough hook with the 140 and hooker with suffer? Or is it just ultimate hook ur lookin for like most of us!

I dont think there is enough low end hookup, it feels to me like its spinning the prop down low. With the stuffer it really stays hooked up on choppy water. I did read something interesting on the other forum. I was reading though subnsxrs build, and he said after he re routed the exhaust out the back the added back pressure woke the ski up. I still think its prop/pump setup at this point. I just want instant hookup, its almost like turbo lag, very minor- but I can feel a huge difference when it does hook up. I just hope I dont end up going through 5 props to get it right.

Today I had someone ride it that knows a lot more than I do when it comes to jet skis, he ran my lows into 1/2 turn from 3/4. That solved half of the problem. He feels the prop is spinning too. That makes me feel pretty good about the jetmaniac motor, it must be making some power! Its not spinning it terribly, but enough to make it suck for jumping. Tomorrow Ill call Impros and get the new pump coming, and hopefully with all the info I can give him about the current setup we can get it in one shot. Im so excited I cant wait! If the pump stuffer felt like night and day, I cant wait to see what a mag pump feels like. ( I should have done this from the beginning!)

Spoke with David at impros, Im going to try an 11/17 hooker for now until the mag pumps come in. He suggested the setback 144 and possibly stay with a 10/16 hooker in there as well, Im going to buy an 11/17 and a 9/15 for good measure and send back what I dont need after its done. Also getting the small and medium cones. It will be a long test and tune day at the lake when I get all these goodies.

A god friend of mine put it to me like this, you can put a ton of money into a motor and hull, and run a stock pump- it will work. You can also sleep with your sister, because it will work, but why would you want to?

Well, it all depends on what your into...and what your wallet says.

If you need your rear end to come loose easily on flat water a mag pump is not going to let you do that..lol If your into back flips and barrel rolls then a mag is for you on flat. In my 96 SJ with DASA 800, MSD TL, dual black jack 44, etc. I had a OEM pump that was blue printed and had 12/17 skat swirl cutback 7mm with the TBM Super pump cone with the shortest cone on(poor mans magnum).. and it really hooked up like a mofo. I could not get it to unhook for the water good enough to do 180 nose stabs and bulldogs.. Could BR with it, and if I had a small hull could of maybe BF it, but it was a 96 SJ hull. I sold the TBM super cone. If I rode surf all the time I would of kept it.

Anyways, what Im sayin is IF you intention is to back flip this mutha, then, YES get the mag(i know you are, just sayin). But I know in my SJ a mag is too much traction for flat.. For surf, yes, no prob in the SJ, that is also a great thing.

I also want a Yam mag for my 300Sx project for this coming winter. I wanna see if I can make it a back flipper..
Good luck tuning... Once your done it will be worth it! :beerchug:

I got out behind a 24' sea ray, the guy made some wakes for me, it seemed like every time he turned towards me the wave was huge in the turn. I landed like 3 out of 12 jumps. He was laughing when we stopped and said the bottom of my ski had to be 10 feet out of the water. I guess a big enough wave gives it enough time to hook up and do something. It was the most fun I have had with it yet, and the most air I ever got. On a setup wake, it barely hooks up all the way before its out of the water.

Still on the old prop here, but still pretty fun.

The 11/17 hooker is way better, Still no ETA on getting a mag pump. Im only getting a tiny bit of cavitation now, maybe 1 more shim on the tail cone will fix it. its close.. So today I hit a nice wake from my boat with a friend driving, It was the closest I have ever been to a backflip. I had to be 10 feet up, I looked up and saw my ski with the sky behind it, I was completely inverted. To be honest it scared the hell out of me, but myself and the ski landed with no harm to either one. My feet were not planed in the holds very well, and I didnt have my shoes. I could continue with excuses all day, Tomorrow I will get out there and try it again until I get it! Everyone that rides it loves it and cant get over the power, props to JetManiac! This motor is stout in this tiny hull.

and as luck would have it, we made a nice v wake tonight, just before that my battery died, so I didnt get to try it. Then mid v wake session my boat runs out of gas and the battery quit! Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Here are some more pics, one is of the mobile garage in the middle of the lake.

OK, mag pumps are on like super long backorder. Here is my dilemma, I can get a mag pump conversion (stator welded into stock pump) for 600 or spend 1800.00 and get a 145 setback from a top secret supplier that will have 3 in stock this week. And no thats not a typo, a 145mm kawasaki sxr based mag pump. I dont know what to do here. I know the 145 will be the hot ticket if I ever go with a bigger motor down the road. Maybe Ill just get both for now?

Today I swapped for the 6 vane magnum pump, and sato nozzle. What a difference!!!! The mag pump came with a 12/17 swirl skat prop, and since I was spinning a 11/17 hooker a little bit I went with the 12/17. It hits very hard, jumps out of the water every time you touch the throttle and dosent seem to be cavitating at all. Id like to try a 13/18 swirl just to see what it will do.

I now have 2 hookers for sale, and possibly a 140 6 vane mag if I decide I still need the setback 145. How much more will I benefit from going up to the 145? I have about a 3 week wait for it..

I borrowed a skat c75 swirl 14/19 to try. The only issue is its cut back for a 650 pump. Does anyone know what the c75 mag props are cut back to? Worst case I will need to make a spacer. The 12/17 hits good, Im just wondering how much more low end hit I can get from this one. Its getting easy to change props..

Winter plans- aluminum bulkhead mounted fuel tank, MSD TL, RRP pole, tubbies, 210 psi domes and lots of race fuel. The bigger mag pump should be swapped out by the end of the season.

This complete ski is for sale. (for the right offer) I feel the need to build a 1100CC superfreak. Im even considering selling my car to make it happen and downgrade in that department.
