I pulled the handle off and cut it apart today, the actual handlepole is aluminum tubing then a SMC cover goes over that. The end pieces are made to stick into the tubing and then it is welded, anyway I cut three inches out of the tubing and cut the ends out of the tubing I had cut off. I had previously moved the location of the sub plate mount up an inch so in total I am now at -4 inches on the handlepole,I drilled through the tubing and the ends and put a screw through it to keep it in place till I can have it welded, then I cut the cover back 3 inches so it would fit properly. All I have to do now is get it welded back together ,put the cover back on it and finish the bodywork on the handlepole cover. This should make a world of difference in the handling and control-ability of this machine.it rode nose high before and really needed more forward weight distribution.I will post some pics later of the stocker and of this one, but truefully it looks so stock that you wouldn't know anything was done unless you are really familiar with 300SX's.

Yeah progress is going slow on this one due to the record low temperatures and lack of funds, hopefully some of the 550 SX performance crap will sell so I can get back on it.

It had a few bubbles in it,I just hit them with the die grinder and filled them with cabosil -epoxy,also filled in the areas you could not get to from the top,a little fairing compound and it should be good to go.

I did some grinding on the hull today, there is a ledge where the hull is put together at that was holding off the bearing housing from seating squarely, that has been ground down and flattened off.I also had to grind down the top of the bearing housing for clearance. At any rate I stuck it all together and it should be in shimmable range.Time to order some aluminum to fab the new engine mounts out of I suppose.

Anyway it rained here all day so I pulled the 300 in the shop and fiddled with it. I mocked up the driveline to see what is what,it looks like I will be using the same thickness of aluminum plates and making them just a little longer. So far everything lines up and is working out great,I moved the resonator to in front of the engine instead of behind it. Gas tank can go back to its stock location but I am saving that till I get it rideable again.I have moved the engine back quite a bit and I have moved the steering up to a -4. What I don't know yet is how all of this is going to work together so I may have to move the gas tank around a bit to get the weight distribution just right.I could also possibly move the battery to the front of the ski if needed. One ride on it will tell the tale I suppose.<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <!-- / message --> <!-- sig --> __________________

Starting to look like the game plan is coming together! Now you are going to run a 148 MAG w/a 12/18.5 and 260psi, right? I hear thats what all the cool kids are doing these days. lol

Actually if Dylan was not riding this it would be getting a 720 Rotax with total loss and a B-pipe,but since he is getting this it will be running a 650 with a pipe mod pulled out of my 650SX conversion ski.I guess I am just not one of the kewl kids.I will however be test fitting the 720 for future reference though, this thing would be a monster with the 720 in it.

Here are some pics where I mocked up everything today and some pics of the oillite bushings I installed in the handlepole and bracket, also a pic of where I relocated the breather tube on the hood.I have misplaced the center section of the exhaust pipe so it is not in the pics,I did measure off of my 650SX though, the 300 actually has more room for the exhaust than the 650 does,so I can easily install a Westcoast ,Coffman or whatever at a later date.I also had to move the battery box up and over to clear the exhaust pipe and the coupler.

I put three layers of glass on the front of the bulkhead then did three layers on the back.Today I popped the holes in the bulkhead for the bearing housing and bolted it up to the support plate-insert holder. I then glassed in the support plate and mixed up some silica to smooth out some places on the pump tunnel.I am also going to use two 550 couplers on this build so I can move the engine forward another two inches.Excuse the funky bolts holding in the bearing housing,I have replaced them with stainless allen head bolts.:woot:

I thought it was way too nose light with the 550 engine in it,I weighed it all out , the 650 engine with the stock exhaust and carb is 65.6 lbs, the 550 had a Westcoast exhaust, the Westcoast dual TL,and dual carbs. With all that jazz on it the 550 weighs 69.6 lbs. That weight is with a swiss cheesed engine bedplate an aluminum flywheel and no front cover on the Total loss system. The stock 300 driveline weighs 15.4 lbs,the stock 650 driveline weighs 14.0 lbs.All measurements done on a fairly inaccurate digital bathroom scale. So it looks like I lost 5.4 lbs so far.
