It's getting there, a couple of issues, the coupler cover is way to short , I need to round up a decent looking spacer for the exhaust pipe and I have to finish up the electrical and the carb , the pipe fits like a dream, like it was made to go in this ski. I need a small piece of air hose to finish out the cooling system and another exhaust gasket for the exhaust spacer.

I did the rubber pipe inside of a coupler trick to get the exhaust hoses to work, some dawn liquid detergent and it all slipped together like a glove, I had a brand new Seadoo exhaust coupler I used on it as the pipes are the same size.

The flame arrestor, yeah it's funny looking mounted that way but space is limited and thats where it fits at so that's where it goes. I just did a slight touch up on the engine paint, if I ever take it back out I will freshen it up properly.

Looking at these skis I noticed I ended up with three Bad bones resonators, one is in the 650SX along with a Coffman inline resonator, on this ski I have a 550SX bad bones in front of the tank and another 550SX bad bones I cut the curved sections off of and used it as an inline, it has a good bark but it's not overly loud.

I had a plastic 650 coupler cover with a chunk missing, I also had a 550 cover with a crack in it, the solution, cut out the chunk, slice and dice the stainless cover and mate the two. Simple clean and done ! Thats the battery mounted to the firewall above the coupler cover easy to remove and recharge or replace.

BTW if you can't tell I went with the 650 motor , ported cylinder and cases, 2mm oversize, ported and polished stock exhaust manifold, Coffman exhaust pipe. , Dual Bad Bones resonators and rear exhaust, Jetsport 44m intake and Mikuni SBN 44 carb, it runs circles around most 750's, she's a ripper !

I am sure some of you noticed that janky transparant blue fuel line on my ski, you didn't actually think I was going to run crap that did you ?

I thought about it for about a minute then I decided I could do much better, on Waveventures there is a long section of stock fuel line that is vent line for the oil tank, nothing runs through it except air, turns out if you have enough dead Waveventures laying around (about three) then you have enough almost brand new fuel line to plumb a ski with.

I did of course hide the not so nice looking parts of the line but here you go, Yamaha got one thing right.

It's not going to be a beater when I am done, thats part of the reason for the trailer build, that will be the skis new home, unless it is being ridden or worked on it will live inside that trailer.

The gasket on the ebox was shot, yes you can still get them, no way I was putting it together without one, also no way I am paying $15.00 plus shipping for that gasket, I got a sheet of Felpro gasket material from Advance auto for $10..00 and cut a new gasket, I have a set of hole punches which makes it easy as pie, while I was at it I cut a new B pipe gasket for the spacer I installed, done and done.

Tidying up stuff today, I found some stainless plate with nuts welded to it so I cut it into three pieces and made the part in the first photo, those hold the wires in place under the hood seal lip and hides them nicely, I will put in pan head bolts later , these will do for now.

I changed out the throttle wheel to an ADA wheel because I had one and I added a Yamaha fuel filter and stainlees bracket , in my mind this is the best fuel filter ever used on a jet ski, I use the filters with the black end though, they are lower restriction and come on Yamaha couches.

The Electrical box is hidden out behind the exhaust pipe on the left side of the ski, I added a shortened positive cable I had made up for something else..

So I am not going to lie it's been a minute since I bought automotive paint supplies, when did the price of primer get so ridiculous, paint I understand but primer, I mean it's primer for Gods sake. I found this at Advance and I went for it because after doing some digging on this company no one has ever heard of I found something really interesting, this is a parent compant that makes paint for lots of other companies and although Azkonobel does not ring any bells Sikkens , Awlgrip , Hammerite kand Interlux most definatly do, it turns out this primer in a very generic looking can is actually 2k urethane, reasonably priced and locally available , go figure.......................

I meant to put it in the water Sunday but my knee and my stomach hurt so it had to wait till today, I put it in and made it about 200 yards and the exhaust got really loud and it stopped, I knew what had happened, I swam it back to the ramp and pulled the hood to verify my suspicions. the head pipe bolts had come loose, I loaded it back up and headed to Andalusia since we were headed that way anyway.

Suprisingly Marvins had some 10 x 1.25 bolts, they looked a little long, I put them in and everthing looked like it tightened down ok, so we went by Jacks and got some supper and headed back to the lake.

This time I started checking more closely and it wasn't pissing at all , I pulled the line going to the manifold and blew back through it, I cranked it up and verified I had water flow from the pump, then hooked it back up and it started pissing , but it was also spewing some water out around the bottom head pipe gasket, I decided to ride it anyway and I did, for a completely new setup it ran really well , I have to do some carb tuning to get it on the pipe a little faster but that's to be expected, also I have no idea what impeller is in there currently , it seems a little steep, it does run really well on top end though , another thing is I am used to running this engine with the Ocean Pro nozzle on the 650SX, I beileve I will try it on this ski before making any impeller changes.

I will have to grab a handfull of jets and take it one weekday to dial it in, we were the only ones at the boat ramp today so hopefully that trend will continue.

And now I have to make the decision to add tubbies or not, I honestly had forgotton just how difficult this ski was to board and get going, once you are on it and underway it's great, I am about ten years older than I was last time I rode it, at this point I am thinking the added flotation up front can't possibly hurt on this ski so yes I am probably making a set of tubbies for it while I am this far into it.

So I started addressing the water leak situation at the pipe, it turns out my spacer was not flat, I draw filed it and all that jazz then I decided to just swap headpipes, for some reason this headpipe is not tapped on the side so I drilled and tapped it for a fitting, I have three head pipes, one 650SX , one Yamaha , and another 650SX that has a hole inside, I decided to find out where and did some explotatory surgery , someone had done a prior repair with JB Weld and painted over it, I drilled a series of small holes trying to connect with the hole inside the pipe, I am taking it to my Tig guy this week to see if he can weld it up.

You can just barely ,make out the interior hole about the middle of the bottom hole, the part above the hole is the part that looked to be eaten away and repaired with JB weld. He is probably going to have to make a bigger hole than that to get to it, I am sure he can handle it though.

I also replaced the pisser with a plastic one , it has a much smaller exit diameter, I am trying to run more water through the exhaust and resonator to quiten her down a little. I really didn't see any good way to reduce the flow on the aluminum style pisser it's somewhere around 9mm ID, I may work on that some more later.

I am doing some brainstorming here, this flat deck is being a real b!tch to reboard, especially in deep water , lets face it I am getting old lol , my thoughts are to incorporate some kind wedges into the angled part of side pieces that I can tyrf over so my elbows have some thing to leverage against when trying to reboard this beast. Any ideas are welcomed.

Now I may not have any ideas on physically making the ski easier to reboard but hear me out…
A lot of geezers have good things to say about these little guys when they fall and can’t get up. I even hear they’re waterproof!
Just something to consider !!!
