My solution is simple , since I am still at the pre -primer stage I am going to add a couple of elbow cups, the shape was right there on the ski already, so I splashed a mold and I will make a couple of cups and install them, no biggie and no life alert needed. The black spot marks approximately where they will be going.

Graphics are here , I ordered two, they sent five, no idea why, in initally I was going to use these as paint masks but that means a lot of extra steps and I have to clear everything , instead I just orederd these in silver, much easier.

Okay I have basically two weeks before I have surgery on my hernia, so I am going to try and get the bottom on this thing painted and the top prepped for paint before then, after surgery I won't be able to lift anything for a while , so I am busy trying to get all my ducks in a row before then. I figure I can still paint after surgery and do simple mechanical tasks so that's where I am at right now.

I have had a bit of time to think since I can 't lift anything over ten lbs till after January.

I believe I want to copy what they did on the LWDE hulls, I have a very wide deck on this ski so I can afford to give up some room. Now I don't care anything about footholds so instead I want to make some filler pieces that will bolt on from underneath like the LWDE footholds do on their hull and turf them to match the ski. The sole purpose of these filler pieces will be to make reboarding the ski much easier.

I will make the pieces from Blue foam and carve them out to the shape that I want, then use a 1/8" aluminum plate on the bottom with inserts in it, I have a rivet nut tool to put inserts into the aluminum plate. I will glass over the foam with epoxy and turf over the glass. Of course that area will have to be painted so all of this will need to be done before the hull is repainted next year. I plan to have this ski completed before riding season begins next year.

So this is what I came up with, I am making these out of blue foam, then I will glass them over with epoxy and cover them with turf , I tried to come up with a shape that matched the angularity of the ski. It's basically a foothold and gunnel that bolts onto the ski from below the bond rail, I may also have to sink an insert into the top of the ski to hold it all in place.

That is a rough draft I may go a little taller with it but the angles will stay pretty much where they are at. I will probably use stainless steel rivetnuts because I have the tool to install them with. I have more epoxy ordered so hopefully I can wrap these two skis up in the next few months.

So here is the first foothold, lots of glassing left to go, I tried doing it with one piece of cloth I won't be doing that again, I ended up having to vacuum bag it to get it to lay down because of all the compound curves.

More glassing going on, this time I am doing only two faces at a time, your bagging setup can be quite cheap yet still be effective, two Ziplock bags taped together with duct tape and a harbor freight vacuum pump will do the trick, the fitting is made from hardware store parts two plastic fitting a rubber washer and two large fender washers maybe a total cost of 5 bucks. In the end of the fitting a stuffed plastic from a dish scrubber inside to keep the vacuum flowing, I just let her run till the epoxy sets up.

And if you are wondering why I am working on top of the trash can , the shop rule applies here, that being any flat surface is a work surface

I know , I know it's been a hot minute, such is life anyway I am back on it making tubbies.

I did this a little different , I didn't have any pour foam but I did have 3/4 blue Dow foam, so I foamed the tubbie with that using several cut pieces and gorilla glue, it really wasn't that difficult and it won't absorb water ever, while using the gorilla glue I got to thinking screw 5200, it's expensive , messy and it takes way too long to cure , with the amount of surface area involved here clamped and screwed down properly gorilla glue will hold this forever , besides I am glassing and fairing these on anyway so they look like part of the hull.

I won't be putting those screw recesses onto the next one it creates way too many issues trying to get the glass to lay down around the recessed areas without air pockets, KISS , Keep it simple stupid.

The filler I used there does have cabosil mixed into it so it's tough and a b!tch to sand,

Sanded down the gorilla glue-foam , mixed up some epoxy-cabosil and made the transition as well as filled all the screw recesses, looking good, will be ready fo tabbing with fiberglass tape and epoxy tomorrow.

Comment very little, but always enjoy your posts and seeing your projects progress
Considering how little they have progressed thanks lol

I actually intend to ride the rest of the season out so after the tubbies go on I might cool it on this one for a bit.

Tabbed it out, I will start fairing it out tomorrow, it's looking really good so far.

The next tubbie will come out of the mold a lot cleaner than this one, I like to try new stuff, sometimes it works out other times it flops but either way I always learn something and I try not to make the same mistakes twice.

I had no idea where the tubbies would end up on this ski so I measured the ones on my 650SX and these ended up being about 14 inches from the nose of the ski and 29 inches from the rear, on the 650SX they are 16 inches from the nose but the nose on that ski protrudes out pretty far and comes to a point, so most likely about the same placement give or take.

As on any other ski you put them where they fit the best and hope it works out.

Pulled it with fairing compound this morning sanded it down this afternoon, it is where it is till I get more fairing compound in.

It will require at least one more pull . or maybe two to get it right where I want it.

So for those that don't know the first pic is of what a 300SX side looks like stock, the second is with the tubbie mounted up, to me it looks worlds better with the tubbie it's just dayum sexy !

I have been looking really hard at my 650SX and my other 300SX fixed steer ski and have done some soul searching, as stupid or crazy as this may sound basically with the flat deck 650sx I have come to the conclusion that I built something I can no longer easily ride , it also it needs a full redo, paint, turf , everything, I removed the engine from it and put it in this ski, it also takes on a lot of water making it not so fun to ride, the other 300SX fixie needs a pump tunnel conversion, engine plates built and a motor and pump swap. But at least all the fixed steer conversion stuff and most of the bodywork is done on that ski.

I did some measuring last night and since I shortened the 650SX up the two hull bottoms are very close in length and more importantly they are very close in width. enough so that I can make it work.

I am thinking of combining the two into one ski, putting the fixie 300SX top deck onto the 650SX hull bottom. I think we already know I can split a ski in half and put it back together.

Yeah I know it's another project but in reality it is probably far less work in total and it should go pretty quickly , what it means to me is one less set of tubbies to build and install and one less ski to build engine plates and do a pump tunnel swap on , the plus side is I already have the 650SX hull bottom exactly the way I like it, I think it's doable and will mean one less ski to worry with .

It would end up looking something like Hyosungs shortened 650SX on PWCT but fixed steer.

The second pic is his other shortie 650SX with tubbies

That sounds like a ton of work! Now that you are super old you probably need a boat size SJ or 1500 to make into a fixie. =P

No I have a 3D already , not ready for that just yet.

I build stuff like this because I can and I am good at it, I also don't mind taking risks and proving people wrong .

Will be very sketchy for sure. I know a guy that has a 300sx he basically glassed a sj bottom to his. With a rrp style pole. It has a 735 with a fpp pipe and a 144 pump. It's sooo sketchy to ride. But it did flip in the surf.
