anyone have any info on powered beach carts

jayski, that thing is awesome, love the way the handlebar is built to steer it,few ?s how loud is it,wonder if a larger muffler could be added to almost completely silence it. I assume the rear diff is welded? how easy does it get through deep sand with those kinda tires? how far is your trip from trailer to water?

It looks like you could sit in the tray and drive it where you want to go

i was thinking the same thing about sitting in the tray, i could see me driving it all the way to the lake about 6 miles lol a 5 gallon jug of gas behind you in the tray and a cooler of beer. i would be all set!

Nice work thats definatly not limited by distance or terrain ! just have to use what ya got .... ryobi has a weak flex shaft and probly has the wrong gearing for big tires, however I would like to see somebody try that system , Ive seen those tines really spin fast . If there is anything but extremly flat beach the drivetrain needs some torque to pull a 300 lb load with sand tires on it . I have seen a next size up rototiller with a little bigger trans on it that I feel would work nice ..... All IMO .

I really like this drive unit but its limited to the small tire for torque unless you gear reduce it again, and the cost is way high for ski bums .

nice jayski but that thing's gotta be heavy though?
i was also thinking of an old 3 wheeler atc.usually smaller and lighter.a 50cc would do the job if geared down.

yeh in aus you get caught driving anything with a motor you get slaped with an unregistered and unlicenced vehicle about $700 fine... so we had to make it so you arnt to tempted to ride it (but your right you can) our trip is about 400 mtrs down a VERY steep incline!! it pushes through the sand well but were are currently building another which should fit the bill better!

Yeh its not to bad 2 guys can put it in the van with no problems, but next one we build will be lighter... its a China 250cc quad and prob a bit overkill.. 5.5HP honda motor would be the best i recon with a ride-on rear end and hydrolic clutch.

How about powering one with the motor and controls from an electric winch? 12v, plenty of torque, and they have those wired controllers. You'd just have to find one that could deal with the needed cycle length and gear it up a bit.

[/QUOte: thats almost exactly like my motor , Planetary gearing made by dayton with overheat protection .. allows for reverse and freewheeling also . I think so far its the easiest to build with and offers the most power with the least gearing and space requirements , the toughest part was machineing the alluminum spool to allow myself to bolt a steel gear to it ,

Im sure you can make it go faster than you want to travel with a 300 lb ski on it but I have not tested it for speed . mine is more of a steep washed out shoreline crawler for now .

I need it to move at a fast walk, maybe 5 mph or so and still have power to climb a soft grade in the sand, where did you get the sprocket and gears

it can do that speed and power for sure . gears at the local TSC'' tractor supply company , #40 chain is what im using however its a little overkill but thats what they had the best selection of gears for .

It seems silly to me to weld a beach cart to a 4-wheeler. If you're going to go through that much trouble, why not just weld a hitch to the ATV and tow it? A hitch will keep the ATV dry, you can still use it as an ATV, and you have less weight to move (ski and cart motor seperately) if the ATV isn't working.
