best freestyle hull for rec use as well

Buckwild12

I'm moved by DASA power!
We have a Rok, and 2 Carbon superfreaks in our riding crew, all of us ride rec. freestyle. We ride in the chesapeake which sometimes is flatwater and sometimes is near surf conditions. We haven't had an issue with ridability in any of our conditions. We have another riding buddy buddy that currently has a squarenose and he is going with a carbon freak next year and he has ridden both options as he feels it is more comfortable and versatile as far as tricks are concerned for what its worth.

With the way everyone changes their minds on aftermarket hulls on a near weekly basis, I would decide which one you want and wait 6 months to a year. In that time period something newer and better will be out, and people will be unloading the hulls they just had to have the previous year.

Not knocking anyone buying hulls...I wish I had the money laying around to buy an aftermarket hull. However when I do go to buy one, I will just pick up a used aftermarket hull if its not too thrashed.

in a year or 2, used aftermarket hull will be cheap i think

superfreak, its is a very good freestyle hull. but the side rails reallly let you rip into corners and cruze around the lake. Rickter hulls are good butt they are more for flat water freestyle..

Its kind of like sushi. Try it you may like some or all but you will have your favorite.

I say buck up and buy something you probably wont be dissapointed.

I think what he's getting at is this: Rickter hulls are great surf boats. (the quoted poster is talking about the FS2 line). They are not "more for flatwater freestyle".
The XFS is a bit more suited if you put the money into it.

Superfreak
I have never ridden anything I like more than my freak. It does EVERYTHING so well. I like it for just cruising around.......I LOVE it in the surf.......It's great for hood tricks.......it's great for flatwater rolls and flips.......it just does everything so well. Like Matt E said.......it is more work to assemble than some of the other options, but worth it in my opinion. I don't even have a single stress crack in my paint yet. Tem certainly knows what he's doing and is a great guy to work with. He will build you a ski to your specs and do it in a timely manor. EVERY single person that has ridden my ski has told me it is the best riding hull they have ever been on and they were immediately talking about ordering one.

Rickter
I have spent considerable time on FS1's and FR2's on both flat water and in the surf. I think the Rickter is a very good surf boat. I would rather ride a superjet on flat water though. The XFS might be a different story.....I haven 't ridden one, but guys seem to like them in both surf and flat water.

Waterdawg
I am not a ROK fan. I spent a couple hours on one and just didn't like it. I felt it was nose high and rode bouncy. I also couldn't get the thing to carve to save my life. I realize this could be partly set up, but we made a number of adjustments and I still didn't like it.
I actually expected to like the ROK because I had ridden Madmat's Envy at Waverave one year and really liked it. The envy might not be the ultimate flat water ski, but it certainly felt like a great rec. boat.

BOB
I have not ridden them so I will not speak to how they ride. I love how so many people on these board act like an expert about something they have never spent any time on. Talking to people I have heard that the Gen2 is a whole different ski than the Gen1. Certainly the price is good which should make them worth looking at and test riding.

Watercraft Factory
I have not ridden the Vision yet. It's a cool looking hull and Steve seems like a good guy. I was very happy with the hood I bought from him years ago.

I really haven't ridden much from Trinity or EME so I have no right to an opinion.

Any time somebody starts a thread asking about what hull to buy, I think that thread only needs to be about one post long. The first and only post should be RIDE THEM ALL then buy the one you like. Yes, every single set up is different, but if you are an experienced rider you can get a feel for a hull even if the set up is different than what you like. Get out and ride them! Go to a freeride or do what I did and get on a plane and go ride some hulls. If you are spending over $5k and lots of time and effort, what's a little bit more time and money to make sure you are buying the right thing.

Yes, let me restate myself. I have ridin a fs-1 on flat water. I did not like it that much because it was big compared to the new superfreak hulls or the xfs. But also the fs-1 was not as new. Now i think the xfs or xfr is to short for freeriding ( my idea).

Go watch Taylor Curtis on his XRF in the surf.
