Broke out the saw. 650 shorten/ lighten

So looks like the PO used a bolt from lowes for the flywheel? Hope it holds! I ended up shaving it waaay down and also shaved the oil injection plate. I also had to move my filler nozzle back as well. Turns out actually installing parts takes up alot more from than I figured from eyeballing it as I cut it to pieces. The water box is jammed against the hull, the gas tank is squished against the water box, and the flywheel cover pushes on the gas tank. I'll put foam in between, and the contact points will have rubber mat to keep things from rubbing holes.

How many layers of glass should I use? I don't have any carbon. Is vacuum bagging anything to look into?

I watch a guy on YouTube Mike Patey. Look for his build videos on Draco. I have learned a ton about composites and layups. Peel ply and heavy amount of work with plastic spreaders.

This is a carbon Cowl I did last year. Without those videos I would never had even attempted this type of work.

That looks nice! I think if I decide to do another project I'll definitely plan it out better, and start with a decent ski, not just some beater, and do it better.

Finally got it ready for the first lake test. Under the hood is a mess, but it runs well enough to get a feel for it.

I can't answer these questions for you.

I spent years chasing performance and when I rode the people's skis I was taking advice from I found out I was taking bad advice. Some people have ridden my X2 and though it was awesome, while I find it disappointing. I have found that people have wildly different expectations of performance and riding experiences vary. You may never have a single issue with water.

At a minimum you'd have to patch the hole, buy a waterbox, buy hoses. buy an exhaust outlet and re paint. Your ski is done the way you have it. I think you should just run it as is. You can change the exhaust later if you are having issues.
You were right! The water in the exhaust never made it into the engine, but it would fill the water box and pull the nose down so far that it would get water in the hood seal and eventually sink! Luckily I had a bilge pump handy.

Also I painted this bulkhead brace with epoxy and its cracked a bunch. Is this piece flexible, and the paint is cracking, or is it broken? I didn't think the bulkhead got any force from the pump on a 650.

I'm not sure what you are calling the bulkhead brace. It looks like maybe you are talking about the midshaft housing. If so, that is an aluminum part that holds your midshaft bearings. It is coated with rubber so yes anything you put on it will crack.

For straps, you can look at kite board or other similar straps. One of the brands available is Dakine.

I don't know what broke your reeds, not a strong area of mine. Water ingestion or age maybe? I'm just guessing.

Yanked it all apart and couldn't find any pieces. I was riding pretty hard when I think it blew, so I'm guessing it just passed on thru. Got my shop crew to stick it all back together.

3d printing a freestyle pump cone to hopefully get me a little more grunt, you know, for all my flips.

Old vs new pump cones anyone tried a plastic one yet?

Also now that I know it will run and drive I put on the modified nozzle with trim and my old bike brake lever flip switch.
