No, I would not destroy a pefectly good hood to do this. we traced a stock hood and i built my mold from plywood. Right now I am reinforcing the outer edge to beef it up for a good sealing surface with the hood seal.

Well here is my hood. I still need to do a few little things to it before i weigh it. It fits good and doesn't seem to move. i guess that is a good thing. I am alway a little leary when trying something different, so hopefully it works well . I will try it out this afternoon if the sun comes out.

diggin' the out of the box thinking.

i was thinking when i get to the top down portion of my hull build, i was going to mold the hood into the ski and create a lid like you did (XFS style).

i am using a RRP Handlepole right now, but don't know if i want to rely on only it for fresh air for the motor (1015cc's).

thanks for sharing - maybe trying something like this.

Thanks guys, I am using dual 2" central vac tubing. that is 50mm openings and i run 48mm carbs I think that is enough to not choke the motor. if i get out on the creek today i can test my old hood and this hood to see if my motor feels restricted with just the dual 2". the hood in the pic weighed in at 4 lbs but I added two alum channel beams held with rivits. approx 1 lbs for my tubing, and another 1lbs for my ball valve and nose handle. so approx 12lb weight reduction on my ski, that should bring it to 268lbs. I think i can loose 6lbs from my battery when i need to buy a new one. After that the only way I see shedding lbs is to buy different parts that are slightly lighter than what i have now. I won't get the battery until this one get tired, which being its 4th season, could be soon.
