I forgot!
It was too cold to work today so after some breakfast and a short road trip to Art's tools, Me and Steve found ourselves in the garage glassing and tinkering. I picked up a little 1.5hp 2 stroke generator that i can use to power my digital smart charger at the dock. i have a little 5lb battery in my ski and am going to try it with a MSD total loss. not too sure it will work for long but i will give it a try and let ya know. :fingersx: if it lasts as long as the fuel in my tank i would be happy to charge it while filling up the tank and having a smoke break. not sure it will work out that way so i will make up a different battery tray for my normal battery. I can swap it in if i ride out in the lake for the day or just run the little guy for a quick evening 1 tank session.:loser:
So today while steve was fiberglassing stuff i went ahead and finished up my battery connectors, bilge wires and kinda stood around looking good. i guess i should have layed up a rideplate or something but i didn't want to take away from standing around, lookin good.:439:

I got a msd total loss from a fellow board member and had him send it to JSS for a makeover. i have it installed and wired so i can flip some switches easily. once i am sure of everything i can clean up the wires a bit more. John made it real easy to install and sent along lots of extra connectors for any small changes i needed to make. I set the timing and a curve i think will work. It fired up right away with some gas down the carbs.:Banane36: Steve brought over his digital scale for cross balancing race cars and it weighed in at 273 lbs with my small battery and 283 lbs with my normal battery. That is with a stock rideplate and a full roll of fuel line in the tray that i have to install yet. Pretty happy with my ski and am really looking forward to riding it. Not too much left to do except finish the rideplate, fuel lines and add some premix!!! i think. :icon16:

I finished making a ride plate this week and i bolted it on yesterday. i bought some oil, fresh gas, and flushed the tank. after fueling up and priming the lines i fired the ski up. it sounded awesome and very snappy with the msd total loss. it ran for about 30-45 seconds and then quit.

season is off to a good start, i didn't even get the ski on the trailer and a coil seems to be acting up. of all the tests i have done so far it is pointing to a bad coil. i don't know how a coil can just stop working but it is. I had the fourwheeler hooked up and the hip waiders read to go. i can get the front coil to spark once and thats it so its either the coil or the brain's channel for that cylinder. i am going to try switching the yellow and brown wire to see if the other channel will fire the suspected bad coil.

What gastank that is?

i have also problems first with mine msd and it was because i had bad ground for coils.

it is a 550 gas tank. i checked the grounds on the coils and i also have a ground wire connnected to the head. i got 12V everywhere there should be too. i will borrow a coil from LAKES and see if it works. i hope its a coil and not the the brains channel. i wonder if i can use the third channel if the other one is the problem. hmmm.

Conrad, heard you are running a front exhaust in your sxi, need a superjet waterbox? i got one for ya. Today was another day of checking things on the ignition. I ordered a new coil. After standing there long enough scratchin my head i decided to remove the coils/bracket and check out the wiring JSS did. It was beautiful, i didn't want to cut it open, i did anyways and got scared. Figure i would just check it one more time before cutting any of them nice connections. half ass hooked it up and had spark on both cylinders. hmmmmm. seal the wire harness back up and reinstall it all. no spark. of course. what the hay? so i make a jumper wire and use it to ground the opposite coil bolt/grounding hole together (the ground wire is on the other coil bolt/grounding hole which pinches the two coils together) no spark. then i tell steve to hold another grounding wire on the bolt i just put the jumper wire on and ground it to the head. spark! i guess the epoxie board coil mount doesn't ground both sides of the coil like it would on the typical metal ones. DUHHHH! I never thought you needed a ground going to both coil holes/ground inserts for each coil when using this kinda mount. who new?
fired it up and smoked ourselves out of the garage. only one thing to do next right? yup hooked up the quad and dragged in down to the creek. put on the hip waders and went for a nice little rip. jetting seems good and timing curve is working. I think my ski is rippin. nothing like my old SN. can't wait to take it for a longer ride.

Sounds like quite the headache...glad you figured it out though!

I hear yeah brent...need to try some higher HP skis this summer to see what I am missing out on.

Can't wait to ride with you guys this year...been a long time coming.

yeah its awesome to figure it out. apparently the coils need to be grounded on the right side hole if the coil is facing up and pointing away from you. my little 5lbs battery held up good and my ski didn't sink. bonus. we are planning a ride at the end of the month. you guys going to be ready?

brrrr. my biggest fear riding yesterday wasn't the sunken hockey net, floating bench, trees, and caution tape getting in my pump. it was stalling out, or just plain falling in. riding in hipwaders is harder then i would have thought. my ski is pretty much done, steve glued his hull back together yesterday and installed footholds tonight. I just tore alex's motor apart and cleaned everything. me steve and squash will be done, not to sure on some of the other guys. We can push the date back a bit if no one is ready, we've always talked about a early year ride so we really should get our skis done so we can have one.
