once again it is almost the last ride of the 2009 season? My ski had another good season, not too much went wrong. besides overheating the motor once and melting an o-ring and not retorqing my base studs it ran real good. I got some blowsion parts in the mail this week, and so it is time to make it a little easier on the eyes. I got some o-rings for stock, and a metal base gasket. my motor is still "fresh" and just needs a little love. After two seasons on the hull it has held up pretty good. i have changed my setup a bit here and there, and am curious if i gained much weight over that time. i will weigh my ski when it is ready to hit the water again. i put a 10lb battery in vs 8lbs, got a new phat clamp that is kinda beefy. put an x-metal box in, and a bit off my handpole....so we will see. i am aiming for 275 lbs ready to ride, but just add fuel.

I got my riser bars put on yesterday and today i started on moving the xft footholds up 2" i am out of resin and will have to continue tommorrow if i can get some from the marina.

the marina had no resin but had some fast hardner. that was enough to keep me going. I worked on the foothold some more and i hink i got it glassed in enough to keep it sealed and from breaking out. still have to do the other side which has the access panel to my scupper. I have not tryed the riser bars on anyones setup but i was really surprised at how much i like the feel of them. they are 2" wider and sweep back 2 degrees. by shortening the pole 1 1/2" inch more and having the xft's installed so far back i thought it would be good to move the xft's forward 2" to help keep my stance familiar. so far it feels great standing in the tray in my garage. once it is in the water i think it will still feel really good. I dropped the ski off at BrutalPaintJobs.com to get sprayed. they did a horrible job and i didn't pay anything for it except the cost of two rattle cans of flat white/black. not too much left you can spray a ski with that hasn't been done, expecially when one has no artistic skillz. lol.

So here i am at the end of 2010 season. i retired my 735cc motor and moved up to a powervalve DASA 771cc built by TLR. I am running V3 reeds and my dual 48 powerbombs. I sold my headpipe, and manifold and am using one that is modified to clear the powervalves. I got the motor installed and dialed in before the snow started. I didn't have to rejet my carbs, but I tryed a few different timing curves on my MSD Total Loss. I also dryed up the headpipe. I am happy with how it is working and will probably run it as it is now. So whats next right? well i moved my riser bars onto the pivot point which made them 3.75" forward. This is when the XFS conversion starts......

well my tray is 29" long now, i am thinking the bottom deck is -5.5" the topdeck/bottom deck had the bondrail removed already and i had moved the xft foothold forward 2" last fall, (hence the ugliness) so i have no clue how long it used to be anymore. i did hack out another 4lbs and thats a good thing.

Just measured my tray and it's 33" unmolested. So far lol! I'm 5'8" 155 160 lbs. and am trying to guestimate how far forward I want to move my footwells. I wanted to test ride it before the snow flew, but didn't get to. My pole is -8" to -8.5" and shortened the bottom deck to -3" Can't wait to start hacking! Seriously though, way to sack up and make the changes.

i can't remember how short my pole was but i removed some from the bottom and some from the top. i liked the distance from bars to footholds so i tryed to maintain that. i am 5'11" @ 180lbs on a heavy day. so you have or have not tryed your shortend hull yet? after my buddy shortend his hull, and i tried it, i went home and hacked it that night. i am unsure why more people don't shorten their hulls but it was the best mod i had done to my hull until this. i wanted someone else to do it first so i could try it but i am not a patient man. I am going on the fact that if Rick Roy does it and likes it then it is good. of course i can't do all the details that make the xfs what it is but i can do a few.

Yah, unfortunately I haven't ridden mine yet after I shortened it. Friggin snow! I'd like a new hull, but can't afford it yet, so I'm having fun hacking mine up. And glass work is new to me, but is actually fun. Maybe I have some issues lol! After Christmas is when I will start the teardown. Also, are you going to semi round off the back of the hull? Side to side around the back of the pump area.

well i found a better pic the the rear of the xfs with the pump and it looks like i need to shorten the bottom a bit more for the proper effect. i think i have the tail end of the tray area worked out in my mind but it may change as i build it back together. i hope to have the ends of the hull squared off side to side and up and down. tommorrow i will have a better idea and pics.

I kept mine square up and down, so I can keep ex and scupper simple. But am thinking of taking more off now. (thanks dude) After I cut the tray out, I'll see how much I have to work with. I want the shorter length for obvious reasons, but am curious how recoveries will be. From stabs, or any 180 tricks. All mods have good and bad points though. But there's a few trade offs I am more than willing to lose to gain a few other more fun tricks.

Here's where I am at now, but am having thoughts of changing it after seeing your pics and also considering how it rode with my weight, pole length, foothold position blablabla... It makes sense for me to shorten more. I think haha!

hey jay, is that an abs extension on your turn noz? thats great, hows it work? i was looking for a 550 one to put on my ski but didn't find one, so i was thinking of doing a carbon extension. I shortend my sn hull and this hull the typical way before, but your right this is extreme. whose idea was this anyways. i blame rick roy and his xfs. Anyways, i recut the bottom deck proper and squared everything up pretty good. I built some forms to do my initial layup. i will find out tommorrow how it turned out. i also sanded my carbon wrapped pole and went up to 2000, when it is wet, it looks good but after i clean and dry it, it turns dullish. i am thinking i need to buff it to get it to shine like when its wet?
