If its a stock 61x then yeah sounds about right. put a lower pitch prop or a pipe on it and it will be much snappier at side mounting.
also how heavy are you? I am about 175 and it would take a a lot to get the stocker going to side mount. Now that I have a couple bolt ons its a split to get it up and going.
the way i usually side mount:
swim up to ski, turn bars opposite the direction of the side I am on
FULL throttle.
Hang on until the ski gets up on plane and it sort of slides underneath you.
Sometimes i have to get a knee to the back of the tray area, get moving a bit then stand up/sit on the ski.
