DIY Total loss or MSD TL upgrade box 270USD?

i have a 64x ebox, flywheel cover and stator to run with zeeltronics. I just need a flywheel. I think i seen somewhere that a gp800 flywheel will work but i know the magnets are different. So does the gp800 flywheel work for total loss only? Will it charge or not work either way?

Yes the 800 works. I have lightened ones available in charging and TL... Or you can find one and send it in.

Having held both in my hand, they look exactly the same. I agree it has to be something with the magnets. I was afraid maybe the lumps were slightly off or something. I can confirm that an 800 flywheel works just fine though. A buddy had Alex lighten one and ran it with his Zeeltronic just fine this summer. When trying to figure it out, we ended up threading a couple long bolts through an 800 flywheel and my 760 flywheel so they would line up correctly to make sure the lumps weren’t off.

They look the same. you cant interchange them on a stock ignition. I have tried. The zeeltronic simply laughs at them and its not an issue. as speedy said. its only interested in the lump and the battery charging system. There is a more complicated answer i can give but im heading out for breakfast

Jut realised I never explained this
the stock ignitions use the flywheel to make the required running voltage. The 800 and the 760 ignitions use different voltages. I know the gp800 flywheel will not run a stock 760 ignition but because the zeeltronic runs on battery voltage that is not an issue

That makes me wonder if there will be issues with the charging system with the 800 flywheel in a 760 charging system.
 
No there is none. the charging circuit is different from the cdi ignition circuit

Yes but the charging circuit and the ignition both use the same magnets in the flywheel. If there is something about the magnets that is different so the 800 flywheel doesn't work with the 760 ignition, it raises the question if that same difference in the magnets causes issues with the charging system.

If it works it works, cool. But makes me wonder what's different.

I had 1 setup for charging,... winter tear down so I thought I’d get my stuff ready to try the total loss.
-Remove magnets
-Remove 3rd lump
-Lighten / drill / & tig ring gear

Right got you. Im guessing since it has a pv on the 800 it required more available current
 
Bought a Zeeltronic last July and finally installed it with that ugly front cover (see post 841), - and a speedy spr. lightened t/l f/w- in a friends ski. It certainly brought it to life!
Spools up nicely- f/w= 2lbs, 7oz. I left Watty's preinstalled curve alone- got some experience with that on my ATP Epics which are still working after more than a decade....
I've (sort of) read all preceding posts- but really not seen positive or negative comments on the Zeel (Watty excepted). Are there only 3 others using the Zeel in this country?

Please, don't let this post die down- I like things that work!
