I think they just trademarked the name vortec and slapped that emblem on everything in the late 90's/ early 2000's. The 95-97 SS's had the original vortec intake worth 210hp. In 98 they switched to that spider injection pack with hoses and dropped to 190hp. It is the same system my wifes 2000 Astro van had. That is why it was more common to spray a wet nitrous kit, then turbo or supercharge them. The fuel injection system is kind of inferior for adding boost. I haven't had my bottle certified and filled for years. If I want a quick thrill, I can hitch a ride in my brothers '14 GTR. As I get older, its just nice to have good running vehicles that can get my skis to the water and back.
I know V8's extremely well. vortec was 96-98 in pickups and was a cylinder head and fuel injection setup. The spider injection sucks yes but good gas mileage lol. If I wanna boost my truck I need to swap in a marine intake manifold which uses normal replaceable injectors, but its not a concern. It tows just fine, and if I want more I'll turn it into a 383. My 78 is my play truck. Its an old pic with the bent hood and dirty as all hell but best I can do at work lol
It has a 388 with forged 11:1 pistons, file fit moly rings, a solid flat tappet cam 243/251@.050, vortec heads, RPM intake, MSD ignition, Holley 750DP with HP main body, long tubes, hamburger oil pan with scraper and windage tray. Muncie wide ratio 4sp from a '64 corvette with hurst shifter, 3.73 12 bolt rear. It was my first vehicle ever back in high school, 18yrs later I still have it!
