I don't think ET uses dasa power valve Springs. The power valves in my dasa 1100 will almost dance up and down when the motors idling and in the ET they don't move unless you hit the throttle really hard.

Blue, I just reread your post. Correct, the ET uses strong springs to try and correct some port timing issues.
By keeping the guillotines down longer, they trick the motor into having a stronger pulse off the bottom.
I have tried to help a couple of local guys with tuning ET motors. They were difficult at best to make run well off the bottom. The strong spring helped, but sacrificed into a fairly short powerband due to it

With all due respect, i think this is very biased post :)
I really havent seen first hand, that ET are harder to setup than DASA, TPE or XS. But like you said every action, can require a tune or diffrent settign somewere else in the drivetrain.
And know the TPE vs ET beef is proberly never ending - and i really like Erik and think the TPE design of cylinder is one of the best out there.
But i dont think your above statement is correct. :)

With all due respect, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion, as am I. This has nothing to do with the tpe-et debate. This is due to the merit of the design, and the tuning criteria's presented to me by my clients desires. I have been asked to help tune these motors, and these are my findings. Like it or not?
This thread is a ET tuning thread and as discussion turned to PV spring rates, and the confusion related to their function. I provided first hand credible opinion on why rates differ between brands noted. Thats it!
Every motor I have ever encountered has a plus side and a negative side. My job as a tuner is to make the given motor run optimally, to the customers desires. You want to end the debate as to what motor is the best? Just go to world finals and see what the top riders are using? This is an ET tuning thread, lets keep the discussion relevant to that.

I have rode Stans ( jaxrider) boat. Its a surf setup. It runs very well. Smooth off bottom as it should and pulls clean to the top. You don't want strong bottom on a surf rig! If it does, you'll pop wheelies and never make a wave.
Again, look at the criteria of the riders desired tune. Sometimes it works , sometimes it doesn't.

Ski ya, Paul

Are you talking about power valve springs? Mine et has very lite tension springs.
Stanley do your valves open while you are brapping it to clear out your waterbox? Are you using the springs that came with it or did you make modifications?

My valve pull up easily as well but dont really move much when its running. I haven't rode Eddie's since last year so it's hard to say.

I'm probably just stating the obvious, but make sure that all the little passages that carry the pressure to the valves are nice and clean.

And...after stating the obvious maybe I'll ask a dumb question lol....

Are all of these motors the same? Like does every ET967 have the same porting, there isn't a "flatwater" or "surf" or "pump gas vs race gas" change in how they are ported, at least if you get it straight from ET?

How about Dasa or TPE or any of the others?

I’ve spoken with Art a few times. It sounds like they are all CNC ported exactly the same. He does not touch anything by hand except to debur. He did say if someone wants a little more high end (I think sacrificing some bottom) he will raise the exhaust port slightly by hand.

Of course, this only goes for motors put together by him.

I’ll be building 3 of these motors in the next 2 months. I will post results from testing .All will be running stock 46’s +b-pipes +148 mag pumps. One will have zeeltronic 760 ignition set up . They will be installed in our vision hulls

Any ideas on where to source these springs? Does anyone recognize them from DASA or TPE or Seadoo or Yamaha?20200201_125547.jpg20200201_125646.jpg

New theory: the broken piece on my powervalve blade is causing it to bind by not keeping it in perfect alignment with the channel. That's why the valves barely move. See where it is rubbing on the opposite side? I'm going to try again with ET and see if i can get some more.20200202_074709.jpg
