whats the point of you having a jetski? whats the point of thinking? so we can do the same thing everyone else does?

Whoa there....backup buddy.
I was spelling out the reasoning behind wanting to get rid of the foam, not calling the quest into question. I think you took that the wrong way.

All you negative Nilly's go back to work or something. If you want to offer your opinion or idea, why cant you all be positive about it?

I did. You happened to take it the wrong way.

as for structure, I dunno man, I've known some sqaures that had delaminated trays that had very felixble trays, and thats about 3/8 thick mutton, It would take a lot of biax to stiffent that up and durability proof that thing, theres a reason people use 4 lb foam over 2 lb.

Thats true. I have also seen the squares have trays delaminate. hrmmm (egh what the hell, its on my younger brothers ski!)

And Matt, its been a sensitive day on the X. I tried not to get involved, but just woke up from a nap and was grouchy. Sorry to jump the gun.

No problem.

So why ping pong balls? I assume because they're lightweight and many closed cells, so to speak.

What about using that divinycell stuff that Geek has used before?
Another neat thing might be a couple or three or four rubber inflatable bladders.
They'd be sturdy, and keep water out.

I am thinking of fairly heavy-duty rubber bladders. It'd be tough to rupture that.

Of course, the ping pong balls would be easier and cheaper.
The divinycell route has been used before. Were there any negatives to that? :dunno:

I guess that Is on a square. I run no foam, I have one layer of Kevlar in the sides of the tray...... and one layer or Carbon that ties together my footholds.... other then that all I have is two layers of some carbon/kevlar/glass hybrid 4" strips that I used to put my tray back in after cutting it out...... peoeple told me it couldnt be done :bs2: People also thought I was crazy for dumping a bunch of weight.... untill they picked it up at the beach:haha: :Banane01: :purr: :woot: My boat IS SOLID! I can honesly say it has been tested well:biggthumpup: I have came up short on plenty of roles.... and a couple of Backys as well:Banane01:

Did any one not see the mythbusters episode where they raised a sunken ship with pingpong balls??

They concluded that it took way to many balls to be worth while,,they did get it to work but I dont think the few balls you could get in the hull would be enough to even help out. Thats just my thought on it,Im sure some one here is way smarter in this then me and will chime in with the math to prove it,but I dont see it.

Running your boat without foam is a great idea! and riding without a life jacket is also smart too!, just make sure you write down the GPS coordinates whenever you loose your boat, it might save you some down time!
just my .02

but I'm gonna just rock it like it is cause taking ******** appart does not sound like much fun!

now there's a theory i can get behind. thinking inside the box. its a great workout dragging it back down to the water.

good luck with it nick. if i see ping pong balls floating around in the surf line i'll come looking for you.

yes, a sqaure, is the topdeck and tray strength greater on a round then a sqaure?

Also, I understand the advantage of having nothing being weight, however I saw one person that used bracing for strength instead of straight reinforcing. That may be even lighter, theres a reason they do it on gliders. If I were avoiding foam and going to reinforce, I would avoid the ping pong balls and whatnot, and come up with a system to mark where the boat goes down (floatie attached to a long rope ha!). However, the advantage to having no foam, would be when it gets 'waterlogged' you just drill a hole, let it out, seal it up and your done! However, if you seal is well, I doubt you'd ever run into that, as 5200 and epoxy has a pretty good durability span.

I know.. no one has realy tested it or anything... whatever im up for it!

Think 288 balls are enough:bigeyes: lol

---I was going to do something like bluefoam down below or so any how..... just wasnt sure yet.... i like this idea.... i think the lower deck is a lot stronger than we think, all those curves and turns and stuff..... i have a lot of glass... ill have to think about adding a layer or so to it....

what kinda drain plugs could i put in.. i have seen the sxr type and some mc mastercarr ones.... just dont remember where...

Drain plugs like this.

Square top deck and tray stronger than a Round?? I have never heard of anybody's round nose trays failing, I have seen several Squares fail (above the pump and the cavity in front where the foam is.............

Looky close:

es, a sqaure, is the topdeck and tray strength greater on a round then a sqaure?

What new ideas have you come up with????

We're trying to make things better for all of us. Kinda stupid to hear something like that from an aftermarket builder... Aren't you suppose to be comming up w/ stuff like this????

:bs2:

how about something constructive???

couple of posts back I saw something about plastic coke bottles....What about 20oz'ers?

would something slightly larger that displaced more water be better?

I like ping bong or smaller balls

will fill more of the void
