Why not just drill some long holes (drain channels) near the bottom & add drain plugs WITHOUT defoaming? Wouldn't 90% of the water drain out if the ski st for a week w/the nose way up?:purr:

how come no one is using dow foam? 1 sheet will do a ski and weighs about 3 lbs. You need to take your time to carefully cut the pieces to pack in with a mallet but that foam doesn't absorb water. Smitty has been doing this to his skis for years and he did the testing on the dow foam. Fill in the voids with a little 2lbs pour in foam and install drain plugs for draining the hull every now and then is a great idea. If you have drains on a hull with wet pour in foam it will not dry out.

You could, but the closed cell nature of the foam doesnt really allow it to travel. If water gets in at the footholds, it stays there, exhaust tube, it stays there. So if your left foothold is leaking and the channels are in the bottom, it may come out if your lucky, but chances are it wont. I defoamed a boat once, and even though we left it angled with holes in the back ALL fall/winter/spring, it STILL had water in it when we finally cut into it after noticing it was still heavy. We found 'pockets' of water wherever a leak was present. The water just doesnt really 'transfer', I'm convinced that even after a year laying up 'draining' that you'll never get all of it, only the stuff close to the holes.

Now what would be sweet, is if someone got rid of the foam (reinforced or braced it whatever), sealed the back up, and put a drain plug on the cavity, so even if its a slow leak, you just drain it out at the end of the day/month/year whatever.

What new ideas have you come up with????

We're trying to make things better for all of us. Kinda stupid to hear something like that from an aftermarket builder... Aren't you suppose to be comming up w/ stuff like this????

:bs2:

how about something constructive???

Coming up with not having cell foam in the tray area isn't exactly trying to make things better!! You gotta learn from other people's experience with this (ie skywalker) . So I gave my opinions on the subject, that makes it "stupid" :bs2: This idea isn't rocket science or anything that absolutly genious, just another gamble from another willing to loose his ski:biggthumpup:

I did use Dow foam on the bottom only this is where I left channels for and water that may enter the hull to have a path to the sides and back to the rear of the ski to exit my drain plugs. Guess I am just ahead of my time.
