looks good, More Speed??

Nope. Everything I'm doing is just right. I talked to Patrick (ikstej) and he said my form is good, but I need to start 4-5 feet sooner. Right now I'm powering up the wave (just like on the big lake). With the flatwater backy, I need to power down into the trough, through the bottom, then up the wave. I'm not letting my motor build enough power.

I'm trying to drill that into my head for the next ride! Man, I hope I can get them soon.

Thanks man!
As prances said, that was Duncan. It was about 2 minutes after the fuzz left the lake for the evening. :)

Nice, I live 5 miles from that lake. Used to ride there all the time, but i don't have to many people to ride with around here. Let me know if you need someone to ride with, i usually can go.

After 2 hours, I finally read the whole thread. Thanks to all the information, I am confident that I can do this...

Though, I think I will have a much more simplistic conversion. Modify the bulkhead, modify the nose, bond the two together. Done!

Hopefully your process is exactly that simple. I know if I were to do it again, I would simplify it substantially!
Be sure to post a thread about the build so other folks can learn from what you did. A conversion ski is really a fun project.

Hey Kevin, remember me telling you that you reminded me a lot of one of my friends????? Freestylegeek/matt is who I was talking about. You guys could be brothers. For sure hit him up with any questions you have on your build.

Of course I will. I already ordered EVERYTHING ahead of time. I'm not waiting on anybody (been there, done that). As soon as my top deck is done, I'm going to work!

I just need to decide what I am going to use to bond the two decks together...Seems to be a lot of personal preference on the issue.

Also deciding between 2 part foam, or styrofoam and drain plugs. That seems to be the tossup at the moment.

No decision to be made there - polystyrene ALL THE WAY!!!! No mater how good you think you get the boat together, water will get in there. You saw that I re-did mine with polystyrene, and man I'm SO GLAD I did!
It's a TON easier to get the polystyrene in the bottom and top decks while they're apart. Plus, you can easily seal them in with a couple layers of glass before you bond the two together. Superfreak, Xscream, EME, Rickter, and Lenzi all use polystyrene.

Where can I find it? And how much do I need?

Any home improvement store should have it. I bought a 3/4" thick 4' x 8' sheet for $9.00 and that was far more than enough. I think the whole sheet weighs 2 lbs. Use a SHARP utility knife, and keep a vacuum handy for all those little balls after you cut it. Once you get the polystyrene in place in the bottom deck, you can sand it flat pretty easily (disc sander on a drill - 36 grit).

Interesting, everyone that does the top deck mod has modified the exhaust. And most everyone has repositioned the steering cable tube. I think I will just leave them both alone...unless I am missing something?

What about bonding the two decks together? 404? How much do I buy? What oz.? How thick should it be? 205 fast hardener okay? I am inpatient, haha!

What about the bulkhead? Is it important to have structure all around it? Or is it okay just to "seal" it.

For my ski, I plan on putting the footholds in first. Then mixing 2 part foam for the top deck gunwales only. And then glassing the foam over. I want the gunwales to have a secured structure. Though, I definitely want to try that polystyrene for the bottom deck, sounds like really trick stuff.
